Well 4 kids 7 houses later finally getting back into the mini scene having been away messing with Elise's.

Been looking at your mk1 thread as my inspiration to the point where I would love a mk1 myself but finding one that doesn't require every panel and a silly asking price to start with.

So now looking for something tax exempt with a round nose (however just found a clubby locally which is typical).

With regards to posting it can be a little intimidating on here simply due to the wealth of skills. Most forums have a few people with an engineering background on here it seems like most have a good technical background and are 'real' engineers with experience and expertise not just a job title.

For those of us outside that field it can make out enthusiastic amature efforts look a little silly at times.

With regards to shows/events maybe it's worth gate crashing a few rwyb or track days etc and make our own if the shows won't provide it? I remember reading all of jimsters effort trying to get his k running with daves help and nic working on some new additions in an attempt to defend his class win.

It's the camaraderie that these challenges bring along with the banter which makes places like Tm special. Also doesn't help. That with the rise of mobile internet usage that unless it's response in an app then the rest of the web gets forgotten, which is just how zuckerberg etc like it 😢

I think the level of expertise on offer here only helps the amateurs progress even further with hints and tips from the people in the know. The things I've learned by being a part of this forum has helped me a lot at times.

My car wouldn't be the car it's become without this forum.

If I was still just on the other forum it would be a very different car.

The inspiration I've got on here is top notch.

Well looking at how this thread has inspired people to add updates to threads, I'd say TM is in rude health.

Also, I wen to see a rather splendid mini yesterday which shows that very special minis are still in development.

I'm in the same boat as wil, I don't go in the workshop until I've put two kids two bed, I'm there usually till midnight, then up at 5.30 to start it all again

Having a wife and kids has never stopped me doing the stuff I want in the garage. I get the kids in bed and then straight into the garage til 10pm, even if i've been working since 5am.

I find it far more relaxing of an evening than watching the box. also, I get less nagged in the garage.

I'll be coming to doune in the single seater in 2016. Grt yourself down to Harewood, not as far as you think, and a great hill.

I've got all that to look forward to wil/Jim. Luckily I've hopefully found a garage to rent in the village. So might be able to make some progress on my 2 in 2016.

I would be in the garage in the evenings as well but i think this also depends on your disposable income, i do not have alot of spare cash and these days and what i do have gets spent on the family rather than the mini.

I also think we have been very hard on new members and a bit overboard with tellling them to search all the time, it makes us look unfriendly. the basics may have been gone over a hundred times however chat is what keeps a forum alive.

Its been touched on here a few times, but I think for a lot of people cost is a huge factor...

The prices in the mini scene are extortionate these days, especially for some of the 'quality' you get.

Gone are the days of getting a project and a donor car for a few hundred quid.

These high end cars we're used to seeing are well into 5 figure builds, and the cost of living is through the roof which takes priority!

That's what it is for me at the moment, when I was younger and single I could just spend all my money on bits for the mini. Now my bills take priority and if I'm lucky I'll be able to factor in some money for the mini, which usually goes towards something boring and Unexciting like a head gasket or engine mount.

But now the prices of minis are going up and up, I'm going to hold onto my 2 because I wouldn't be able to afford them again at today's prices.

Il add my bit please. A lot of it echo's what other people have said.

I don't post too often but still visit daily. I think with the search button obviously its still great, (I used it rather than google when its mini related lol ) BUT a lot of things covered are very old and although still correct
I think refreshing things and new ways or just up to date ways arnt a bad idea.
Cost is a massive thing , mine has taken thousands but only when ive had the money , but when ive had spare cash I haven't had the time .
And as everybody finds as you get older you have less time .

This thread has boosted thing though, so thank you Simon.

I definitely would struggle if i was too buy n build something in todays prices.. luckily i brought lots of minis about 10 years ago in my late teens when you could buy a descent mini with mot for £300! And go round buying all the mot failures/grannys minis on the drives for £80!!!

Just the weather/ xmas bills thats stopping play for me... if i had a garage joined to the house there'd be no stopping me in the evenings tho!

Yes! Thankyou simon! It has created a lot more posts since so cheers 🍻

Well what can I say!! I started this post when I was very drunk! And got home and was bored!

I get what a lot of you boys are saying, Dave that's lame lol. Most of the mk1 was done under a tree next to my house, if you want it you will get it lol. it's one of them things that this place is always good for a chat with Ramdom blokes about Ramdom things lol.

As a new year starts I think we all need to just imbrace that Tm needs to be supported and stay alive! As there would be no point to all the hard work that Alex, Tom,Paul, Nick , and the rest of the mods put in to help this place be what it is! So don't be saying thanks to me it's these lads that WE should be saying thanks to!!

I for one love reading old posts when I can, about how stuff was done.

I think some have been rude over the last years to people on here, but banter goes both ways, also lots of good people have moved on from Tm over the years which is sad, and it's a loss to us all! But not everyone can be right and not everyone and be man enough to say they fucked up.
HOWEVER NO ONE SHOULD BE PUT OFF BY POSTING ON TM in my eyes, so if your reading this and have been put off, it's time to wipe your fancy and get posting lol,

Ok I am chatting shit as I am pissed again and it's time for bed lol.

Simon.

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

I pop on now and again, after having another child who is now almost one and changing job which is more demanding of my time, like most the mini unfortunately has taken a back seat, however it is in the garage which is warm and carpeted.

Yeah Dave.. Some of us are real troopers who don't have shelter to work under *tongue* we changed my windscreen yesterday, luckily it started pouring down just as we finished!
It would be nice when a few more of you have your cars on the road to actually have a TM club stand full of cars! Not just one or two!

My first post in several years I think! Same as alot of others, marrage, a daughter who's nearly 3, moving home etc. No time for the mini which has not been used for a few years but am hoping this year will be its year back!
As others have said the scene is not what it used to be, we get different priorities in life and would not have thought there are too many newcomers to the mini scene these days.
Ps Hope your all ok and well *smiley*

Hi Dave, doing great cheers and nice of you to say but it looks very neglected at present with cobwebs dust and mould on it. So your turbo now too, shows how long I have been away! Hope you and the better half are doing well
