Well they way I look at this stuff is, if I was upside down on its roof doing 60mph with my ass doing 5p - 50p I want it to be as safe as I can make it!! So drilling the thing that's been made to be strong and help in such an occasion. As if the cage went tits up on you it would be like having some lose scaffolding pipes in there!!

Not a full cage either, but if you compare your steel to carbon fibre mate there is a massive difference, for example I have saved 30kg with carbon doors with have no locks, doors cards or even handles, with force racing hinges, also I have even drilled holes in the cage before fitting!haha I know the whole point of a cage is for safety but I just wanted to get as light as I possible could! Also a full cage? And I am sure them wheels are not that light? The Eng still looks full fat under there. Have you had it on some real scales ? ? Now before you think I am having a go, I have been looking at weight saving so much over the last 2years! And you only have to look at my build page to see how much work I have done to get mine down. Thats exactly why I am having a custom cage! For extra safety, also I won the first concourse outing at mini fair 2! So she can't be that bad!! Yeah all been lightened with kad radius arms and minifins.

I some how don't think your car will do very well in concourse mate, as I don't think rover ever made a car that looks like yours lol. You could lose lots from that subframe, you still have a rear subby??? Simon. With one calliper on each side - yes but it wont go through an MOT unless its pre 1968. You would need 2 callipers each side (one for handbrake) and it may just weigh the same then
I seriously doubt it! |

If you are struggling now, you need to start think outside of the box Well Ive worked very hard over the last 10ish years to ensure my weight loss isnt really visible, you dont see holes drilled in everything and I like to keep my stainless bumpers and window surrounds. Its just every component is either slightly smaller than it was or made from something different. Sprocket is right - you do have to think outside the box and spend money in the right places. My last lightweight purchase cost me £80odd and gave me around 1gram to the £ in weight loss I seriously doubt it! |
