Thanks dave.
Once the engines done I'll start on the mini.
Gotta fit a bulkhead box, internal gear linkage. Put my reinforced subby on and sort out the exhaust.
Hopefully it'll be done ready for the shows next year :)

Bit more done this weekend...

Drilled the back of the block for the water feed for the turbo. Was much deeper than I thought lol.

Then got on to painting it. Only managed to get one coat on, but doesn't look to bad. Reckon two more will do the trick :)

Bit more done today.

Hopefully I'll get the flywheel cover sorted with it's new bits and bob's I've got for it. Then I'll start tiding up my 2 core rad, and adding an extra inlet in the top of it for the turbo water return.

Where did you source that sandwich plate between the block and the filter head please ?

Or did you make it ?

Somerford minis.
It's got a water temp sender for an oil gauge.
I'm going to use the outlet on the top of the filter for the oil feed.
Could someone tell me which way the oil flows please?
Does it enter the oil filter housing through the braided oil pipe?

Yes, in through the pipe, in to the outside of the filter, out through the centre

Great so the oil coming out the top of the filter housing would be filtered and just been through the oil cooler? Before it goes to the turbo?

So last night I was in the barn, trying to get the rad to fit...

It's the same rad thst came off my other engine. And it's the same lower bracket. Different top bracket as it's a different thermostat housing.
The fan is fouling the top of the radiator cowling!?
I've made a spacer to raise the rad a few mill but it's still fouling. Not much but I can hear it when I spin the fan.
The fan is also just touching the jubilee clip on the breather, but I might fit a small spacer, which will probably make it worse on the rad side! Lol

Might have to get the hammer and grinder out to adjust the cowling! Lol

Anythoughts welcome :)

So I've had a nice day tinkering in the barn..

Fitted the fan belt and crank sensor bracket but it was fouling the belt...

So I made a spacer and filed the offending part of the bracket slightly to give clearance...

It's sill close but hopefully there's enough room!

Then I made a bracket for the alternator...

Just need to give it a lick of paint.

Also fitted the high torque starter I bought ages ago..

I also drilled a hole in the top of the radiator and fitted a piece of 8mm copper pipe. The reason for this is for the water return from the turbo.

That's it for now.

I can't believe the amount of little bits that need doing! They take the longest to do as well!

bit of painting done today!

Thought I'd give the custom down pipe a coat of high temp paint (800 degrees Celsius)

Probably not last long but at least I tried lol.

So hopefully next job after the rad is on the engine and plumbed in, it's body work time! :)

I used Halfords high temp paint on two exhausts for my Austin and they lasted for years. As always prep is the key (see what I did there ?) at least 4 thin coats worked for me.

I'm not sure how the belt problem came about (my VR sensor is in a completely different place) but, from this photo

it looks like the way you have spaced the bracket out, the sensor will be covering the edges of the teeth rather than the middle of them.

It may just be the photo but, if the sensor is now where it appears to be, you may get a very erratic sigmal.

I'm not trying to be negative, the rest of the build looks very good, but the Ford EDIS type stuff is decades old and not as tolerant to mis-alignement, gaps, etc, as the modern stuff.

EDIT - IMG tags corrected (I think).

Thanks for the comments guys.
Yes tadge I rubbed it down and de greased it. Time will tell I supose.

Yes rod it does look like that in the photo, but I think it's the angle of the picture. It can't be any closer to the belt otherwise it'll be touching. As it is it may still be too close!
It's a constructive comment which is why I post here :)

Thanks

I'll try and get a better photo to make sure I've got it in the correct position as it's easier to adjust it now while its on the bench than later in the car.

Looking good dude.

Correct position is nice and close to the pulley and as central in the teeth as you can get it.

Plumbed in the turbo water feed and return today..
