I had a beam fabricated but there were two issues, firstly i made the design 4mm too short - derp! - , and secondly the mounting holes on one end weren't drilled to plan... so i had to get them to do it again and ensure they at least make it to plan. It might be harsh but i gave them a good clear drawing with every dimension and they made one end perfectly and the other is just a mess.

so when i took the beam back we decided to weld up the existing holes and re-drill new 9mm holes further out by 2mm each side. So, in short, the beam now fits very well

cant see it that well, but there's only 2mm of extra space left to the side of the beam. It's the same on the other side

I also got the delivery from Velo of seat mounts and one seat slide. I'm confused as how the slides meant to go together properly, but im sure it can be figured out without growing grey hairs

rail setup 1

rail setup2

seat with bracket, it now doesnt rock!

I did have some 10x6 mambas, but i sold them last year in preparation for buying the ultimate wheel (imo). I was going to buy some 10x7 mamba style from Force Racing, but just before i ordered carl put up the CAD pic of the mesh style and i went with that. Im a sucker for mesh wheels

The engineer came over on wednesday afternoon. We went through everything we could think of. The engineer was super helpful, and gave us some great additions.

We have a revised design for the rear end beam (will now pick up the original rear most subframe mounts), but we can have a higher/flat floor, move the battery into the cab behind the passenger seat, create new seatbelt mounts for lapsash when we tie the main roll cage hoop into the b-pillar, have a turret brace in the rear, run a fuel cell with a swirl pot (for future EFI), have a type of side intrusion system in the doors, we have a design for the seat mounts thats solid and works, should be able to legally run 10x7 wheels, braided brake lines, dual circuit brake system with lines in the cab, run an AFR guage, and a weber bulkhead box...

All completely legal and road registered/insured *happy*

So grabbed some sound deadener this morning. I wasnt expecting to buy any yet but it was 40% off

Not an exact battery yet, but we have mentioned an Odyssey Battery. They can be quite small (half the width) and should provide enough kick to crank the car.
you were looking at getting a new one werent you? Any ideas?

Thanks Dave. I'll refer back to your post when i chase a battery!

So time for a little update!

A mate and i have ordered 2 sets of Dunlop tyres. Hopefully get them in the next few days.
CLICK ME for 165/70R10 FORMULA-R D93J

Carl at Force Racing posted this pic of a wheel on their Facebook page overnight. Its exactly like what mine should be, and he mentioned they're for a far away land (australias pretty far from the UK!)

Even if not, my wheels are exactly this. Same offset, inner/outer dimensions, colour and style.
I have sent an email to confirm, but being from pommieland i could get a reply well after my bedtime! Its already 8pm here

In other news im going to drop my weber and 12g940 head off to my mechanic John Leffler. He has finished my hubs with new bearings and CV joints, ball joints, brake lines, new brake switch etc; but wants the driveshafts so he can put the CVs and everything together. IF i have driveshafts then i'll drop the head and weber off together. Otherwise Leffler will order them in

I have also heard of a new 200+hp supercharged lightweight mini coming up. Cant say anything more, but it should be special. It has the right people involved!

Oh and i have got some more steel for fabrication. Unfortunately i forgot to order the steel for the seat mounts, doh! When i went back to pick up my order they didnt really have any "top hat" type steel anyway. I need that type as the engineer wants me to fabricate the mounts from that...

Oh well!

Those wheels will look great. The car is coming together nicely.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Thanks graham, i appreciate it.

Tonight (it's 11:30pm as i type this) i was stuffing about with some of the steel, got more angles and lengths cut for the rear frame. The top length in the boot will be the first strut brace (required by the engineer), but i think i might change it to allow fitment of a fuel tank

I figured i'd grab some photos of the motor. As far as i know, AEG312 means it's a thin walled block? but the flange for the gearbox is thick? They're Hardy Spicer joints arent they?

I think the number on the gearbox casing says 22G1128. According to http://www.ozcooper.com.au/new_page_3.htm it's a Mark2 Cooper S gearbox?

Oh right haha thanks for clearing that up!

Most of the floor is being cut out. Basically eliminating the tyre well and battery box and bringing the floor level up so its the same profile the whole way between the wheelwells. Gives me a bit more space below :)

The steel at the bulkhead looks clean and solid, so i will cut the majority out but leave an inch or two of the steel before the bulkhead. As theres only one direction of curve in that area i can get a peice made up to fit with a curve (to match the existing floor) then a sharper bend to butt up against the remaining steel near the bulkhead. It makes sense to me and the engineer! It will be clear as day with some pictures *happy*

That looks very much like a late Mk2 or Mk3 Cooper S 1275 thick flange block with a 4 synchro remote change gearbox. The oil cooler, hardy spicers, tappet chest covers and 11 stud head all point to that being a genuine and very valuable Cooper S item. What are your plans for it?

Is that a flywheel scatter shield?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Thanks for the confirmation. The engine has already been bored and stroked to 1408cc, so it will stay like that for a while. Eventually it will probably get stripped down and run new liners. Im pretty sympathetic to my cars so i enjoy it, but not destroy it.

It sure is. Used to be a race motor. Apparently would see 8-9k rpm so im guessing thats why the scatter shield exists

Jeez. Thanks for that, it's expensive!
I guess it doesnt matter too much as im not a collector, it was heavily modified 30 years ago and will stay that way

Got my new tyres off a mate this afternoon. Nice Dunlop Formula R's.

Also grabbed a spare set of doors off him to check against my shell. My ones are seriously ill-fitting.
