Tom I think as you "Gently" through it across the garage into the scrap bin, after you wouldn't want to have to pick half it up of the ground and carry it all the way to the scrap bin.

Mmmm, rods

Seriously, kick the A+ rods in a lathe and do this to the big end:

Saves 30 or 40 grams for free if I remember correctly.

Just remember to use a generous radius on the cutter, and be prepared to resize them afterwards.

Would that mod do the same as wedging the crank (cheaper and with less hassle) ?

Yes, but it's the sticking in the lathe that I tried to show you. It's free if you know someone with a lathe. Checking the big end size is something you'll have to do anyway.

ahh i thuoght you meant cutting back the caps and resizing the big end due to distortion,so needing a grinder or honing tool .
i might have a go at this with a sacrificial con rod and see what happens to the big end .good thinking that man from the cold land !

and denis ,you could at least have got the holes in a straight line ?:)

pfft you clearly know nothing, if you drill the holes in a straight line you get a resonance in the rod like a guitar string, leading tp a premature fatigue failure. offset and different spaced holes and the effect is damped. think that was some vintage flat-head 4 cylinder found it on google ages ago, always amused me!

oh denis im shocked your so behind the times ..
the latest resonant frequency computer modelling has proven that ,with the holes (OR frequency utilising elongation compression increasing apertures... F.U.E.C.I.A)
in line ,as the rpm increaes the rod extends in a totally predictable way and automatically rasies the cr proprtional to revs .sheesh ,glaswegians *wink*

I,m guessing thats a Phoenix crank for and Auatin 7.

An Austin 7 known to me has driven Peking to Paris, over the Andes and next year will be driving across Canada, using this crank - no problems so far.Its also on the same set of tyres !!!
