That looks spot on, I assume the foam is quiet firm?!

Not a huge update as I have very little free time as usual, but I decided to actually put a few hours aside to do some bits for my own car for a change.
Started making a plenum chamber. It was initially going to be aluminium, but due to the long runners I plan on using I decided it needed to be lighter, so I'm going with carbon fibre.

First job was to make a foam mould.

Then made an ally plate that will be wrapped inside as part of the mould. This will allow the runners to bolt to the back & be removable and the throttle body.

This is how the two parts will fit together.

I've done several dynamic CFD runs of various plenum design.
What you have done so far looks bang on. I wouldn't change a thing.

Yes Steve it's high density stuff, a bit like polystyrene.

Don't suppose you fancy making 2 plenums do you?

I'm considering swapping to a single throttle body with extended runners in the clubman and repositioning a larger intercooler.

I struggle with low vacuum, using ITB's. Fast throttle openings are a bit of a problem from idle. I also fancy full closed loop Idle control valve.

What throttle body / size you using Phil?

The foam mould will be lost when the plenum is made as it gets dissolved after it's been wrapped in the carbon.
I can't remember to be honest what car the throttle body was from, I think it was a Rover. I got it years ago from the scrappy. Its 57mm ID.

To be fair, I'm thinking about full alloy runners and plenum. I'm not fussed on weight.

What size ID trumpets are you using? Do they taper?

36mm ID at the bottom to match the runners/head ports. The trumpets taper, I cant remember offhand what angle. They're 50mm tall. I copied the dimensions from the Vizard book.
The reason for wanting it to be light was not for overall weight reduction of the car, it was because I didn't want a big ally plenum & throttle body hanging on the end of some 150mm runners & only fastened to the head by a few M5 bolts.

That's a good point Phil. Any idea of the overall plenum volume?

I've not measured, but I'd guess somewhere between 1.5 to 2 litres.

if you put lines across the top in 20mm segments. like the lines you've drawn on for runner position but all the way around.

Then take a photo from directly side on and one from on top and ill be able to model it and tell you the volume.

if you include a drawing of your other components i can do a little bit of cfd if you want?

That would be fantastic mate. I'll mark it up & post some pics. What other stuff do you need to know to do the CFD ?

Cam profile might be useful. Then I can drive four pressure areas from a spreadsheet. I wont go into too much detail as you seem to be pretty set on that design. It should work out.

The CFD will highlight any problem areas at least.

Thanks mate. What details do you need for the cam ? Lift, duration ?

We'll the human CNC machine (my Dad) got busy on the lathe yesterday and made me this adaptor for the end. I'm pleased with the result.

duration on the inlet would be useful. Message it me if you want to keep it a bit stum.

Roughly marked half the plenum in 20mm sections. I know it's a bit ropey but it was getting late . Lol
Cam will have around 280 degrees duration. Though I've not finalised that yet.

That will do just about, got a rough scale. Should at least highlight any issues.

Need one photo from the side and one from the curvy end though really. Dead on. Like you would see an engineering drawing.
