OK, horn now works by fixing the earth to the thing it's mounted to.

So, still got an issue with the driver-side rear light, and the indicators. Really frustrating. Everything else is done now for the MOT.

How can I test the stalks, without just buying new ones?

Really weird how one of the rear lights works and the other doesn't. Is it possible it could be a flat battery (Although the car starts without any worries) or is it 100% a wiring issue?

Could I just pinch the power from the working rear light?

Although I can't help but think that there must be one fault causing all of these fucking lights to fail?

blah.

blah blah.

get your multimeter out and see what readings you get at the back of the car. Have you checked those hateful fuses on the bulkhead?

Fuses are all good.

No voltage at all on the drivers side, and 8v on the working side. (still seems a bit low)

Check the joints on the inside of the bulkhead on the passenger side of the car. There are some of those annoying union thingys and they tend to die if you look at them the wrong way.

also check the wiring running across the rear panel - there may be a possibility that the cable has been damaged?

as for the indicators, 9 times out of 10 i've found it is a dodgy connection at the fuse box or flasher unit

Thinking about it, Rob's suggestion makes more sense as the wires run to the passenger side light first.

The wires look fine, but there's clearly something up.

Surely nothing would work if it was that? - The headlights work, the pax side rear light works, the horn now works, the dash lights up..

This AM i checked the fuses, and the flasher unit, both of which are fine.

:(

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

just pinch the feed Al for the mo and fix it later *smiley*

that would be my stab! its bound to be a dodgy wire, it wouldnt suprise me that driving it to the mot station it rattled around and started working!

Trouble is, the indicators still don't work, so there must be a proper broken bit somewhere. I just need to find it!

The lights circuits are reasonably simple so it shouldn't be anything major.

First thing, do the hazard lights work if you switch them on?

Back to Fucking Tool status

Swindon

my old mini had dodgey rear lights from a busted bulb on one side and the crystle light conversion, changed the clusters back to original mk3 and worked perfectly after that. as for the indicators as tom said check the hazzards could just be the relay

I've never had working hazards *wink*

I actually hid the switch for the last MOT attempt. The indicators worked then, though.

you might need a new stalk or it could be the relay? sounds like you've tryed pretty much everything else. have you had the multimeter on that light unit?

Start from scratch- the indicators have worked properly recently? Then stopped- neither side front or back works?

The indicators worked last monday.

Then, I replaced my steering wheel, fitted my rollcage, and now they do not work.

No idea if the rear light was working before, but now one of them isn't.

Ok, as per tom's request, I have tested it a bit more:

indy lights do not turn on when I link the wires that go to the flasher unit (and have the stalk down/up).

but the wires have 13.26v going to them

Fuckeyfuck. TomF now thinks I am the biggest nobhead of all.

He was coaching me through fault-finding at 12:30-1am... and it turns out that I must have knocked my hazard switch when hiding it behind the dash... and switching it seems to disable all my indicators.

Switching it back, and now they work just great.

Tomorrow, I'll fix the rear light, and hopefully test it during the week.

Thanks for all the advice, chaps. I hatelove minis!!

Have you got the wrong flasher unit fitted? Can't cope trying to run both sides at once?

All sorted now. Rear lights are done.

I think i must have knocked a wire in the engine bay tho as the oil warninh light now comes on, but the pressure gauge says 50. Fun!

So, mot this week!

OK, I think I'm ready to MOT the car now.

As I previously mentioned, many thanks to TomF for the late night advice and everyone else for chipping in. There's bound to be something it fails on, but the car feels really together compared to the previous frog, so it's been worth the effort.

I will be trying to put it in for the MOT on tues/weds, so I'll reply if it passes/fails.

Here's a few pics of the car as it is:

And here's the warning light.. :/
