yep they have to be the right way round,

you can slacken the bolts that hold the snails on and rotate (clock) the centre section.

Aaah. I'll have to change it around a bit, so it needs to be at least 15degrees tilted from where it is now?

Nope. It needs to be at the most 15 deg from it's proper upright position. Ie at least 75 deg from where it is now.

Basically the core needs to run horisontally rather than vertically as you have it at the moment.

The drain relies on gravity. If the oil isn't able to freely 'fall' out, it will work it's way past the seals and smoke like a bitch.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

ground"

Not quite sure why you've been Fentonated, but i'd do the file test on that layshaft in a non contact area. It doesn't look particularly heat treated.

Have a search on layshafts as there were a number of dodgy ones about a couple of years ago, so there was a thread made about them.

well im back after an apology.

it has been heat treated nd is made from a very high grade steel, they went out in a batch to the treaters. the difference between this next to a normal one is where the saft goes into the casing its usually turned down wheras this stays at the shaft width, ill try to get a picture next to a standard one next time i work on the mini.

dont know its stops the wear and renews it on the re-done end. more of a precaution than anything i think. if you fiddle around with some casings some have a little play where it goes in the middle part of the casing due to wear over time.

after mocking and playing around i think this is what im going for, can get the turbo to sit pretty well with the previous info ive been enlightened to, one thing i cant decide tho is which desighn to go for, i think i like the idea of the twin pipe to the top then y peice but is this of any disadvantage to picture number 2. going to tap the oil drain into the side of the gearbox casing via an aeroqip type connector.

sorry for the poor drawings i can see what i want in my head but im not artist or engineer.

any good?

,fraid not.

The oil drain has to point straight down to allow the oil to drain by gravity back to the sump.

The 15 degree angle mentioned is the recommended maximum angle away from the vertical you should aim for i.e oil inlet at the top and oil drain directly below it, not flowing through the turbo horizontally as you have it arranged at present.

The normal A+ layshaft is stepped down after the smal bearing whre it enters the casing. You can just about see it in this pic:

This new one isn't stepped down and thus needs a larger hole cut into the gearbox casing :)

cheers asphalt. havnt been over the unit in a bit so hadnt hadnt managed to take a pic but ^ yes thats the difference.

ami also right in saying that the pre a + are smaller in overall diameter than the a + ones?

trying to get in touch with maniflow to see wether i can make my manifold as a pattern and then they can copy all neat and flowing, because in all honesty i cant weld to save my life. i started mocking up the manifold but its long winded with my skills and i never flow well. haha.

also another question i want a flanged y peice aswell instead of the slide on rubbish due to the weight of the turbo (although it will be supported but safe rather than sorry), is there a comonly used pattern thats easy to get gaskets for, im thinking spi catalitic coverted flange or similar i can just get the gasket from a local CAS.

oh and can my landba sensor go before the turbo? if so it make it all alot easier.

multiple edits...multiple spelling mistakes!!!!

maniflow quoted £250 mild and £375 in stainless for the manifold made to my pattern which i dontthinks too bad considering thats with a flanged y peice and in "stage2" bore diameter.
