Maybe ill just do it the old school way, drill holes from the main caps.
Ill have a proper look at it tomorow.

What about nibbling a bit out the web on the back of the block, and having them central on the bore where the step is lowest, then just machine a flat spot in there.

you should be able to nibble a little off the webbing, but the jets cannot be centre of the bore as they will hit the rods. i will put some pics of mine, you may also have to cut a little off the base of the piston to make sure they clear

No major progress so I thought id just put up some pics of flange.

And then for the more hardcore guys, some pipe in a flange.

Was so excited to fit these this evening, but i for some reason didnt check all my measurements, so the turbo flange doesnt fit ! Arg ! Pretty hacked about it but hey, ive fixed the drawing and asked my waterjet guy to make me a new one.

Really hoping to crack on with this abit now, made a list of goodies i still need for the engine build. Only 13 items left, has anyone used the Cooper S rod bolts that MS sells ? Dunno whether I can afford the ARP ones.

Havent got them yet, but the BMW dealer in Garsfontein road said they could get them. Only problem is you get 6 in a set and is about 900 bucks a set. Im still not sure if they will fit anyway. The part no is on here some where, just do a search.

Been sorting out my cranks end-float recently,

put the dial gauge on and realized that normal 3 thou over size thrusts weren't going to cut the mustard, so i bought some phosphor bronze.

Chucked it in the Myford,

and promptly buggered up my first attempt. The second attempt was way better and i now have a solid 2 thou endfloat.

All bolted up to check that it all rotates easily.

Next step it to do the patented Carl Austin oil feeding of the rear thrust.

I didnt, Im just going to drill the caps. Less machining and just as effective.

So Ive started on the oil squirters, went with M3 grubs plainly because my bolt shop doesnt stock anything smaller. They will have a 0.8mm hole in them to from the jet, anyway, pics.

Holes drilled,

Tapping the holes M3.

I then ground out the oil-ways

Now I just need to organise my mates 90 deg air drill so I can do the oil-fed thrusts.

Never thought about that before. The place for a conventional drill machine is really small.... *tongue*

For what are the threads? Oil squirters at the underside?

Im going to drill a 0.8mm hole in some M3 grub screws, they will then screw into the threaded holes in the block, and act as the "jet" for the oil squirters.

The Moke belonged to a good friend of mine, he sold it a couple of years ago but I do know the new owner so maybe. *happy*

Anyway, update time !

Got the mini back into the garage after a 6 year stint under the carport outside.

Started stripping, as you can see its been standing for awhile.

Cut the front bumper lip off, actually just drilled out all the spot welds.

I then built up a mock up engine and box and slapped that into the engine bay to try and work out where all the radiators, turbo, waterpump and plumbing would be going.

The bonnet might need a bulge.........

I then took the head and manifold to work to finish up the tacking.

Now this is where the real fun starts, my girlfriend brought me some ARP rod bolts from the states(even got some discount), so I started by making some tools to remove the bearings from the transfer case.

This tool fits inside the idler gears race and the is tightend up it pulls the race out effortlessly.

The second tool uses hydraulic pressure to force the input gears nose bearings race out of the cover.

Next it was time for a wash !

I then built up the box complete with a Quaife ATB and central oil picp-up.

It was then on to the motor, gapped the rings using the wiseco guide.

Then on to the bottom end, ARP rod bots tightend with there special lube.

Next is to punch new holes in the head gasket and then fit the head and do the cam timing, that should be good fun.
