Nice indeed, Just noticed that cage bolts to the A pillar.
Just drilled and tapped through a mount you tagged on yourself?
I bet you were tempted to go for a spin with no roof on? eh eh?

the cage came with the mounts allready tapped, all i had to do was weld them in place, made life a bit easier. :) i took the weber and filter off to spray bulkhead otherwise i may have been tempted

What was wrong with the old roof? Are you mapping the car at work? Rom

i used to put my front end on the roof when i left it in the garage and in the hot wether it warped it. it was never a good fit, then i read on tm about tapping the corners down on the steel lip to make the roof sit further down.
Its being mapped at smmc, spent the day fitting everything and tomorrow they're mapping it :)

hows yours mate? get it back together?

Question about the roof rich... Would you say the role cage is a necessity? I'm doing a carbon roof on mine, and have been in a toss up about the cage. Also for install, how'd you do it? With either one. Did you just measure, hack out the old roof, and put the glue down on the paint, or did you sand it down first?

yes i'd say the rollcage is a necessity, i left a 3 inch lip all the way around and then (depending on where the roof is from) i tapped the corners down to allow the roof skin to drop all the way on.
i flatted the paint on the lip back first with some 240 grit just to make sure there was no loose paint and to make sure it stuck *happy* once it was on i put 2 ratchet straps over the car from one side to the other to hold it over night while the sikaflex dryed

hope that helps

Okay, now here's a question Rich: I'm not too keen on putting in a roll cage. Would a B pillar bar that goes along the top provide enough rigidity, do you think, in lieu of a rollcage?

no offence meant but i think you would be silly to run with a fibreglass or carbon roof without a roll cage for both strength and safety point of views

personally i wouldn't hack the roof off without having at least a 6 point cage. the B pillar bar would probably weigh more than the roof skin you remove aswell :(

No problems mate. If you think a roll cage is integral, then A rollcage it is. I'll have a talk with the nearest guy to me that can do one custom, and see what he thinks we can do.

Before I go and do anything though... Better to do the roll cage first or hack the roof off? Sorry about the thread jack by the way. Your roof just looked top notch, and you seemed the bloke to talk to.

i'd get the rollcage sorted first so it definatly fits inside the roof. then cut the roof off and weld the tops :)

bad news :( .... late afternoon on sunday at avon park after a run the car started missing and running really rough as i drove around the pits. something wasn't right so parked it up and got recovered home.
after taking the head off i nearly cried lol head gasket had blown between 2 & 3 and left a nice groove between the bores and on the edges of the pistons. also a slight mark on the head.
engine builder is hoping the head can be skimmed to save it but will need new pistons and block.

The car wouldn't idle as of saturday on my second run but i put it down to adjustment, turns out that was the first sign of it going *angry* least it explains why i was making shit terminal speeds and not getting the times i had hoped.
will upload some pictures of the damage later.

the block looks like a small oxy tourch has been used between 2 & 3.

need to wait and see how much has got to come off the head before i buy pistons, the thought of a turbo motor had crossed my mind earlier. n/a for now though
