I've been cracking on with the fuel system today.

The pump and filter are isntalled:

And the 8mm return pipe is half installed:

Just waiting for a T piece, then I can finish of that end of it.

Errr, yes...

The list goes like this:

Refurb pedal box, fit new master cylinders and fit to the car.
Assemble clutch (when the rest of it arrives) and give to Benross for lug machining.
Fit intercooler (when it arrives) and order pipes.
Lift engine (once intercooler is mocked up) and split.
Take centre main to Benross for machining for centre strap.
Finish the fuel plumbing at the front.
Clean and paint gearbox, wok and transfer case.
Clean and paint block.
Cam and timing gear swap.
Assemble manifolds, turbo etc.
Assemble engine (once Benross has done his thing) and fit to car.
Fit exhaust.
New back tyres.
Wiring for pump.
Panic.
Find that the carb etc is goosed...
Fit interior.
Fit the boost & oil preasure gauge.
Make the boot stay shut (had to take the gas struts of for Avon...).

So we have no time, no money and probably no chance, but I'm going to give it a go...

I deally it needs to be running by the end of next weekend to give us a few days of fault finding....

You can have it for £1,000,000 once the turbo engine is running and proven *tongue*

Also got a new cable going spare in the shed.... A bargain at £300,000....

Got the hydraulics sorted today.

Started of with a manky old break master cylinder and a load of filth.

Striped, cleaned and painted up the new pedal box and existing servo. Added a new clutch master cylinder and a known good brake master cylinder (the old one was shot - took 2 pumps to stop it at speed...)

Ripped the nasty dirty sound deadening of the bulkhead and gave it a quick clean. Then put the pedal box and cylinders back.

Much better. *happy*

Why BL decided to make the hole in the bulkhead slightly too small I don't know. Was a bit of a fight to get the pedal box back through it...

I've finished of the fuel plumbing today

Had to make my own bracket for the preasure regulator.

Also got a nice pair of brand new Yoki's fitted on the back wheels.

Still no sign of the intercooler, so I've bitten the bullet. I've taken a load of carefull *oh well* measurements and stripped the ancilories of the engine ready for John to lift it out and split while I'm having a weekend of.

Please tell me you are going to replace those excessively large Jubilee clips with propper fuel hose clips. If not only for your safety!

*surprised* just realised you have used millions of them *surprised* I'll be surprised if you dont have at least one leak!

other than that, good job :)

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Looking good matey.

All that hard work will be worth it when you get to the rollers on 17th Oct.

Could almost use this thread as a DIY turbo fitting aid !

Richard

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

Benross is really busy at the moment, so the 17th hangs in the balance...

Still no sign of the intercooler and John keeps finding more things to buy and wait for.... All bits that mean we can add more boost though... *happy*

Point taken about the jubilee's. We will have to get some proper fuel hose clips on there.

Right to show that I do actually work on the van every so often I decided to go and get some work done while Andy is away in London for the weekend.

So went over this morning and lifted the engine out.

We will have to finish cleaning under the bonnet now then engine is out.

I then popped the flywheel off which came off really easily I was quite surprised as it doesn't look like the engine has been apart since it was built in 82!

After that I split the engine and box and whipped the centre main cap off so that we can get it machined flat for a centre main strap.

However there is a slight problem as the mains bearings are bollocksed. So it looks like we will be re-shelling the bottom end.

After that I'd had enough of getting greasy for the day so pulled the van back into the garage and have dropped the clutch and centre cap in at BENROSS HQ for for the lugs to be machined on the back plate and the cap for centre main strap.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Any decent machineshop will be able to get them next day delivery, which is better than many of the Mini suppliers

Yeah, just a little...

As are the shells and thrusts

And the cam bearings. The crank needs regrinding.

I've pulled another one from a spare engine and that seems descent.

So the block and two cranks are going of to Benross for an opinion.

No chance of making the 17th now...
