I'm going to take everyones advice, re-skin only.
Spot welding would be best.

You can rent a spot welder.

http://www.hss.com/g/55212/Spot-Welder.html

Would only be worthwhile to get it for a week though. I'm probably going to weld mine in 2 or 3 shifts as lifting a spot welder to that height for 100's of spots will be painfull...

It will be interesting to see where you save the weight. The van will be going on a diet over the winter.

He can borrow it in the new year if he wants, but it might be easier if he goes round and pinches matty's while he's not looking. *hehe!*

Heres that place I was telling you about. Very cheap and plenty of space to put a trailer too. About 5 or so miles from the track. English bloke runs it. Very handy on a bike or in a car around the track.

Well, taken everyones advice and started removing the doner roof skin. What an arsehole of a job! Got proper drills, but useless as the spotwelds were rectangular! Good old british build quality! About 3/4 through, started loosing my rag. So calmly packed the tools away. Hopefully will finish tomorrow. :)

I've stopped at Sliders, don't get me wrong it's decent enough for the cash. However it is a good 20 min from the ring which is a pain in the arse when you just want to nip back or something. There are lots of other good spots much closer.

It was a F1 weekend, so limited at the time where we could stay. Mind still good knowing a Brit that can order local takeaways :)

Thanks Rubicon, got that covered :)
Just ordered new torch & Euro adaptor for the MIG so I can weld the rear of the roof (nr the tailgate hunges) where you can't get in with a spotwelder.
Got a year to get the shell ready for a coat of paint, funds allowing.

Well all the glass is out. Jacked the old girl up, and to my dismay....completely solid with no rust underneath! So thats one less thing to worry about. Had a nose at simplifing what looks like a miniature oil refinery fuel pump setup. Running a standard tank at the moment, with each red top pumping from each end of the tank. I will replace the tank and remove one of the red tops. May replace the filter with a swirlpot. But saying that...it works...and it wouldn't be a major weight saving.

Thanks to Joe C for tyres.....was a few weeks ago, but was it a struggle!

PS..........MSA licence still up to date :)

Another thought...I may be looking at duplicating the rear anti roll bar & shock setup for other Metro members. I shall pull it apart next weekend to see if it can be done.
