I think there was a thread about removing the rear bulkhead, Think it was on john F's car or maybe jimster, but he said it ruined it? Work looks tip top, i just think the rear bulkhead needed to stay, unless you are going full spaceframe style?

i do have plans but only time will tell if they work!

i will make it work without the bulkhead but it just might be that it loses it weight saving advantage.

he who dares (often loses but sometimes) wins.

he who drinks too much in the workshop cuts out his rear bulkhead!!

piciacture time

in light of Ben's recent thread i have lost the seam where the wheel arch meets the boot floor.

just the other side rear valance closing panel to remove and then i dont think i can loose anymore off the shell!

patches and shell modificamications is all thats left to do before the cage is ready to be put in and some strength renewed to the shell!

i have more than enough to keep me busy untill the cage gets here!

I wish I'd been patient when I restored mine and rather then being hell bent to get it back on the road quickly. I think in the next couple of years it is going to be stripped down to a bare shell again for some major weight saving.

I suppose at least there won't be any rust to deal with (hopefully)

few pics of this weekends work.

should do away with exhaust clearance issues.

just need to dress the welds on the tunnel but there is alot more room there than there used to be!

i cant understand why the tunnel goes to its thinnest point where there is the most running through it!?

i think i might run some gussets off the tunnel to the rack mounts to give them some more strength....what do you think?

i was going to, but then i went out on the pit bike all day yesterday (great fun) and im knackered today!!

i can oly really cover over the rear de-seaming, drill a few holes in the rack bracket, sort the spot weld holes out, and dress the tunnel welds before i need to get a sheet of metal for the boot floor repairs and then i will need the inner wings to carry on with the rest. if im committed i can get that done in one weekend, probably next weekend.

then i wont get the panels until after i go boarding. should be another few weekends work once i get them though as it will allow me to get the sills, and scuttle on before making up my top bulkhead box.

then i will finally have a solid shell waiting for a cage!

its nice to have a break *happy*

A few little bits done today.

got the tunnel tidied up/seam sealed and then a coat of weld through primer on it just to protect it.

all of the patches seam sealed and protected

tubbing seam sealed and protected

tied in the tops of the b-pillars and seam sealed

welded up all the holes i made with the spot weld drill bit

plated over the R/H rear seam, to make it look neater, and put abit more strength in it.

patched over the filler neck also.

as always:

Enjoy.

Well, took abit more metal out and then finally started to put some back in!!

The boot floor is done and feels good *happy*

Took along time to do the floor, not that it looks like it but it was awkward.

Also got the other back seam covered and it now looks alot neater.

I hope your actually talking about the pictures!!

I use that one as more of a dolly, I have a more precison one for getting the metal in the right place to weld. Unless I get angry then that one gets swung around!!

Cheers for the interest.
