Hey matty,,, I don`t mean to be sounding like i`m as blind as a bat, nor do i want to look like i`m a know it all,,, but purely because i couldn`t see the back side of your front engine plate, i`m wondering if you`ve allowed a recess in the back of it for oil drain from the cam thrust plate down to the front main cap???

But apart from that, it all looks the goods & well done for getting on with doing it yourself, it`s not the easiest conversion without CNC etc hey? *smiley*

Hmm, never thought of that, but the original steel plate was flat at the back and I used that as a template.

Wouldn't the gasket between the back plate and block allow enough room for oil to flow back?

Im not 100% certain on where you mean? Any pictures?

Its taken a while without a CNC, but ive broken the back of the machining side now..thank god!

Yeah,,, not sure how thick your gasket is, but i just machined the back out of mine to give it plenty of oil drain. Oil gets splurted out from the front cam bearing, past the cam thrust plate (the triangle looking bolt up plate thing) & it needs to drain away from there easilly & the factory let it through the timing cover where the gears & chain normally are,,, & it`s allowed back into the donk through 2 holes in the front main cap,,, but if you fit a flat plate right across the front of the block then there`s no where for it to go anymore. Go Check it out... you will see what i mean.

Thats a damn good point Matt... I think I may be milling out a slot this week then!

Cheers for the contructive comments, that could of saved me from having a leaky seal. :)

Would you say a passage 10mm wide by 2mm deep would be sufficient?

I really like your front plate, it's got to be even lighter than the ally ones Dave sells.

I doubt it *wink*

Dave, at the time of posting Matty's front plate was made from a cornflakes packet, hence my post.

Ive been busy this evening....

Both end pipes are the exact same length, as I have now moved the turbo inlet into the centre of the head. Just need to work out a way to cut the pipes at the end for the collector.

This as far as ive got today, the centre pipes need to be shortened to make them the same length, but I thought I'd quit while I was ahead for today..lol

Anyone know of a good way to cut out the pipes like this?

Im not to sure how to measure it, or if its just a case of trial and error? *oh well*

theres prob a special tool matt ,an angle pipe cutter or some such ,but a vice and a hacksaw and a bit of thought should get you there .

I use those 1mm thick stainless steel cutting discs in the angle grinder.

I used 1mm SS cutting discs to do that - the first pipe is tricky but then you know how to do it....

Cool, I'll give that a go. I'll have to get all the flanges sorted first and it all tacked up first...so got a little while yet before the dreaded collector!

Matty,

If i was doing a minifold of that style i would bring the 4 pipes together with flat ends, blank the middle with a peice of flat, then fill in the outsides so you get a square wit rounded corners, then squish a cone into a square and weld it on.

....go's and does a web search when realises he can't explain very clearly.... *oh well*

sort of like this.

http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...K%257CcountryGB

but i was thinkin more of a cone like the one these sell

http://www.dynoflow.co.uk/dynoflowfabrication.html

found this whle searching too, like the 5-1 collector!

Matty is using 304, not so bad, not ideal, but 321 347 and 310 are a right bastard to get in this country so 304 is an absolute minimum.

Dont understand it as those guys on that forum are in America, and you only have to do a search for aircraft exhaust suppiers to find all the 321 mandrel bends you would want.

316 on a HOT 900c turbo manifold is in my opinion not such a good idea
