Very nice! I would be scared to put this together!
On that note I was told to remove the black coating from the cam lobes in the instructions that came with my cam?

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

That cam as been tuftrided by Swiftune to increase the wear rate. I don't think it's going to wipe off.

I agree it didn't wipe off, the instructions states to polish it off with some wet and dry.

I guess it depends on your cam grinder.

The build looks great

Having spoke to Swiftune today to order my new crown-wheel, Pinion and drop gears, I can confirm without any doubt that's the cam lubes shouldn't be wet & dried. Just clean and fit.

I think they mean the bearing surfaces? Like you would polish crank bearings. Personally I've not had any trouble sticking them in unpolished on the cam.

Agreed, you need to clean it off the bearing surfaces as otherwise it will just clog up the bearing material.

Well the crank & rods clears the gearbox casing now, after a few hours with the die grinder and 80 grit sanding rolls.

Have you taken into account that the crank and rods are going to deform under load and that you will most likely have less clearance when running? Really impressive work going on here!

Yep, I've got at least 3mm clearence everywhere. Just need to check the oil pick up pipe and windage tray yet. Then I can start the gearbox build.

With regards the plasti-guage I have a question, something I've always wandered. If the tolerances are out what would you do to correct it? Bearings from after market suppliers only tend to come in one size, so I don't understand how you'd fix the problem if it wer out. Now I've done bearings on an engine before with oem bearings and they have a chart where depending what reading you get you can order different size bearings which makes sense.. Excuse my ignorance, just wandering.. Brilliant build by the way, love the detail. :)

I just used Platiguage to check the tolerance is within spec. Any problems, it's back to the machine shop for measuring and corrective actions. It's also great for checking running Clearence on used journals with new bearings to see if a regrind or just a polish is needed.

I've found that oiling the bearings can give you a misreading though. It should be done clean and dry.

IF....if you have access to machining facilities and a huge stock of bearings, you could try multiple bearings to get ones that have tolerances closer to where you think they need to be.
Some people do this....( nutters )

Or you could polish the crank if the journals are a little too big.

Or you could ignore plastigauge altogether and just get on with it. Measure the holes, measure the journals, if they measure up all good...

Plastigauge will not tell if if the holes or journals are actually round. Measuring will.
