I like thouse Dave, I think I might copy them *smiley*

Will - The new exhaust can't be worse than the old one - crap bends and lots of them. The u bolts will have to do for now, budget won't stretch that far...

Some ham fisted sod has snapped the bit of the waste gate arm that holds the actuator arm on (before we got the turbo).

So I've wobbled up a new one.

Turned out OK.

Then we pulled the engine out of my mini, dropped it in the van and shoved a few things on.

Should all fit and work. Actuator will be a bit of a pain though.

Thanks.

The actuator will probably end bolted on to a bracket.

The oil drain is going to be fun with the snail that way up. What are peoples thoughts on dropping the oil straight down onto the top of the crown wheel? Would it impeded the oil flow at all?

I managed to get the oil drain to the fuel pump hole and my block is lower and my turbo too so there must be enough room.

Do a search on robert's GT17 installation for a genius actuator bracket.

I've sean Roberts actuator bracket *wink*

If we had the snail the right way up, the oil drain would be a piece of cake - just like the metro one, but it's pointing down at the moment so the i/c hose will be smack in the way.

Thinking something like this out the back of the box:

Mate its just a bit hard to get the bolts in i put a cap head (allen type) and then welded it up if that makes any sense.

I think ours sits a bit further over and up as we're using the metro manifolds, but I've got the idea now. Thanks

Got the oil drain sorted. Not pretty, but it should do the job.

Got the down pipe sorted. All lines up nicely, just needs welding up.

Got the short engine built.

Finished the gearbox

And stuck them together

Benross has also finished the head refurb/upgrade. New guides and 30/36 stainless valves. In comparison to it's original 'Stage 3' porting, the chambers are massive and the ports look great, should be a big improvement. *smiley*

Getting there *smiley*

Also spent a bit of time getting the crank, primary gear and idler endfloats as good as possible. *smiley*

Crank thrusts where a right bitch. Too tight with standard thrusts, lots of relieving to be done. Mixture of early block and late turbo crank...

The down pipe is easy, just buy one of these and a 45 degree 2" steel bend. Cut the down pipe just behind the flexi section (just before the hanger), just after the funny square bit bit on the turbo end and just above the block/box join. Cut the bend just after the bend at one end and about 4" down at the other end, then just stick them together. I suppose I could make you one if you get stuck, but my welding is pretty crap.

Does this mean that somebody else is putting a GT17 into a metro? The race is on...

I must say I'm a little concerned how close the DP gets to the clutch slave cylinder. We could do with a heatshield I reckon.
