Gone from a 3 Inch TRS to just a cheap and cheerful securon on the passenger side.

Pretty interesting there’s 1kg difference going to 2 Inch and a normal style buckle.

I’ve also chopped some more bits I don’t need out the shell. This was the B pillar belt mounting.

Door card

I also cut out the passenger crossmember. All the fuse box etc is going to live here so it’s got nice easy access.

The most exciting bit though!
Bought a 7 port SC head. Decided I didn’t like the 5 port EFI idea.

Bam, just like that....without any warning *wink*

What’s the difference in weight between the SC head and the iron 5 port? Do you plan on running a single throttle plenum or throttle bodies?

Haha couldn’t resist.

I’m not to sure. The alloy head is actually quite substantial. I think it’s less than I hoped. Maybe 4kg.
I already sold my 5 port head. I have another head I’ll weigh it and see.

I plan to use a single TB as I don’t see the point in individual so much with boost. Going to use the 50mm Tb that came with the Sc 5 port kit.
Am going to swap a few bits with SC as I haven’t used any of it. Should be good to go then.

They not selling them anymore?
I got it second hand. It’s Matt Argents old head. You know everything that’s going on dave hahaha.

Does need a skim though, looks like wrong gasket was used. Will need on anyway though to get CR right with the forged omegas I’ve ordered.

Battery box removed and smoothed out.

Pretty fed up with the MED belt drive leaking oil. I’m going to go back to a chain. Thought I’d cracked it last time I fixed it but seems to have weeped a little again.

Got the engine out and stripped. Found one ring with a bit of damage but no damage to pistons etc.
It’s getting bored to 1310, MED crank and a set of forged omegas.

I’m off all next week so hoping to make some good progress on it.

The SC head is really good, but the alloy is soft. You need to use an AF460 head gasket, the BK450 does cause damage. However, even the AF460 will leave marks eventually.

As a CNC head it's also a bit marginal on cooling. I dry-decked mine and added the hose from the end of the block to the plate on the end of the head.

I’ve ordered a cometic gasket. Was recommend to use it. Shoudnt cause any damage hopefully.

I’ve already modified the end plate for dry deck. Just need to block the head water ways. Did you use brass grub screws in the head?

Thank you for the advice :).

I was lazy and left the head. If you're getting the head skimmed, you could get the holes welded up.

or just plug the block with grub screws, then you keep the reessale value on the head.

Block is plugged already with grub screws.

I didn’t think it looked doable to weld up as some of the water ways are pretty tight to the holes.

Ideally I don’t want water getting to the gasket as it’s currently corroded out from the water ways a bit.

It'll be great to see how the 7 porter goes. I've dry decked mine to, and done a load of port work on it.
But seven years after buying it it's still not driven anywhere.

When going Cometic anyway, why not go Med dry deck Cometic for extra gasket integrity?

Shame the belt drive has proven troublesome as far as keeping oil away from the belt side. I’m sure the new engine will be a cracker!

@Phil: how much weight do you reckon can be saved by porting the SC head *happy*

I’m really looking forward to getting it all running should be very interesting in comparison to the 5 port.
First trackday is booked for 6th of may. Hopefully have it all sorted by then. It’s pretty much a full rebuild of the car at the moment.
Get yours sorted Phil!

Yea that’s what I have ordered Evoderby. The price was the same :).

Been chipping away at loads of bits. Got all the shell changes painted. Done a fair bit of wiring changes.

Modified the head end plate for dry deck.

Bought one of minisports stronger verto clutch arms. i've also trimmed the clutch cover a bit more and added some Ti bolts.

The part you've all wanted to see....

It is actually quite bulky for an alloy head, the water ways are quite small and the TB mounts on the front are substantial.
5KG is quite a good saving though and quite high up in the car.

Cheers fellas.

Been wiring between night shifts this week. Made a good start on it. Need the SC 7 port loom to show up so I can add that in.

Also got the box rebuilt with a new mainshaft and an ATB I managed to pick up for a great price last year.

It's all coming along great Jonny, well done. It's a cracking car this one.

3.1, it’s what I’ve always used and found best for my car. Tops out about 120 in 4th.
