So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Well, now I finally have the garage clear I have pulled the head to see how bad the damage is...

Good news, all the valves are intact albeit bent, all 8 have hit, but the exhausts took the brunt as they have more lift, a couple of the inlets have only just touched but as the pushrods were all bent I'll get them replaced anyway,

also noticed the stupid brass plug between 2&3 has started to move.

not very good pics but here's the dings in the pistons,

head, quite a lot of rust in no2 i'm guessing this is just because its been standing,

bent...

bent and crusty.

I'm not sure what the advantage of the a belt is? Is it not just more maintenance and they are a pain to get to./

I hope the repairs go well.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I think I mentioned it in another thread but do you think the sticking valve you had earlier could have been partly responsible, ie, overloaded the belt at the time leading to early failure later on ???

I've seen that centre brass plug move on a standard engine (a friends many years ago) leading to head gasket failure - a stupid design.

yeah the plugs are a PITA when they move, last one I did I tapered the hole and made a tapered plug up.

I was sure I changed the belt when I had the head off, but now i think back I cant actually remember doing it*Confused* so yes it could well be an over stressed belt.

Piston wise I might pop a set of accralites in wile its apart, i'll have to check the bores and deck heights though.

That's not too bad eh?

Accralites should be ok deck-wise, as they sit 0.8mm down with a std deck.

I had to take nearly 1.5mm of my deck to get it lined up... although, i could always just trim a bit off the top of the accralites,
or just carry on with the Powermax's till they melt...

I had to take a similar amount of the top of my block to get the Cooper S pistons flush with the top of the block, and the Accralites also sit flush, so you might be ok, or at least only have to shave a gnats dick off them
