Cheers robert. Looks lke 6000 series will do the job nicely.

Ive started chopping the front section of the box out that we discussed. Im amazed how thin the centre web is in place 3-4mm! *surprised*

leeds/wakefield.

Maty , please note that once welded the 6082 will have lost a great deal of its mechanical strength as it will have affectively been anealed with all the heat from welding, thats not to say it won't be just fine , it just won't be the aluminum you think it is,

some 7000 alloys age harden better after welding

Carl - Do you think I'd be better off with something like 7075?

Ah well there has been plenty of drilling! *happy*

I had a couple of hours in the garage today, and made some good progress with stripping the bulkhead ready for some repairs and modifications.

Its very close!

The bearing looks the same as the one in my set, its only a couple of mm bigger than the mini one.

Any chance you can measure the centres, at least that'll give me something to compare mine to.

Actually if you measure the dia/width of the gears on the mainshaft I'll measure mine, they could be the same. *oh well*

How about the two ends ones and the 3rd from the left as they are easiest to measure?

Ive just measured the larger gear and its 15.3mm wide and 91.22 dia (37teeth). Bearing sounds like it is the same size.

I'll have a measure up of the other gears tomorrow.

You can now use the turbo manifold to toast your crumpets whilst driving.

Out of interest why are you changing the front bulkhead? As every fits with the old one & I can't see how it effects the gearbox, or are you planning on changing the exhaust manifold & turbo whilst you're at it?

The main reason im changing it, is to try and tidy everything up, so I can work on things easier.

And partly because in my youth, I bodged the hell out of fitting the weber box and drilled lots of holes for various things that look awful, and bug me everythime I lift the bonnet. lol

Its also going to make it easier to fit my dash mounted shifter. *happy*

Robert gears measure:

largest gear on the left 91.22 dia, 15.3mm wide

3rd gear in 83.9mm dia, 13.7mm wide

gear on the right 92.2mm dia, 13.4mm wide

So looks like they are close, but not exactly the same. *oh well*

Bulkhead is pretty much ready for the new panels to be welded in, just some tidying up some of the edges and some spot welds to grind down now.*happy*

Unfortunatetly not much progress with the box. Hoping to get some more done on it next week. *oh well*

The shell is looking better now though. Just a few closing panels to weld in, and the bulkhead is finished.
