That's GA16DE, right... For a daily driver?

75' Mini special deluxe.
1275 A+ engine with turbo on the way...

It's a cg13de for my yellow clubby. Kind of tempted to fit it to this though. I fancy doing something different and away from the a series. So going to replace my 7 port turbo with a rebuilt 1.3 16v twincam Nissan unit, fast road cams, bike throttle bodies, Matty manifolds etc. Approx 120bhp of reliable fun.

There's not going to be many A series turbos left at this rate lol

Whatever route you take I'm sure it'll be fantastic! :)

Nearly ready for paint

Been seriously waying up putting the micra engine in this project, but I just can't do it. It turns out the micra engine is about the same weight as the a series. 111kg for block, gearbox, clutch and cylinder head.

Internet forums can't be trusted. Every thread suggest 1/2 the weight of a series. Clearly not true, and this does swing thing back to the a series. Plus a 140bhp gc13de with LSD isn't going to be cheap.

The diff casing looks like it protrudes backwards quite a way, is there any of it which can be cut off without weakening it.

Just thinking of driveshaft angle in plan view like Honda installations suffer from.

And the obvious question....

What does it weigh *wink*

Cheers

111kg as per the photo.

Ive not had chance to mockup in a subframe, but I'm told it's not a problem.

I'm going to be using a allspeed frame, shafts and arms.

Glad you're swinging back towards A-series power!!!

What we'd really 'need' is an alloy A-series block, preferably with 5 main bairings and a DC-5 type crank machined to suit. Heard some rumour on KAD developing an alloy block a few years ago...for some reason it hasn't come through??

As an alternative to me personally there could be only one: www.vetech.co.uk

185HP NA, low weight, six speed sequential without 1920's chain drive. *tongue*

At what cost though? When you compare a micra engine, 1275cc. 5 main bearing, excellent balanced crank from the factory (reliable at over 8k Rpm), cross flow 16v head, standard rods proven in harsh rally engines etc. Separate gearbox oil all for £100-£200. The costs to modify are similar to the a series, just most scope for performance. 150bhp can be achieved from the 1348cc later spec engine, running a street able camshaft and ITB's.

True...guess we'll have to wait and see what the vetech busa kit is going to cost, I for one love the challenge that's gone in to that whereas the micra option to me feels a bit soulless...

The Busa kit does look amazing. I reckon about £8k plus the cost of the engine.

That said I've been hanging on for one of these for my a series build.

The Swiftune crank does look superb, seen a cutaway engine at Autosport last year.

But it does come back to the cost thing....other engines/boxes are usually just far better value for money

That's the MED new version. Both made by Arrow, but the MED version should be slightly cheaper.

The only thing I would say is prepare to be disappointed at the weight of the Allspeed frame. I'd seen various weights quoted on the Internet, but including the huge rear engine mount they use it's circa 30kg for the Vtec / K series style frames, assuming the other frames are a similar weight.
