Update time. Cars currently at the paintshop, so I've been busy sorting everything out ready for the rebuild.

All looking really good as usual

At the risk of sounding like a broken record - What weight is the ST 6 x 10 out of interest, I like them in 10's.

Also with a 'foam' filled tank make sure you keep an eye on the fuel filter for the first few hundred miles, I have had quite a few fuel pressure related problems with semi blocked fuel filters in the past, keep checking until they stop shedding bits. There are a few different types of foam some worse than others for this.

Cheers

ST10 10x6 with AO32 is 7.65kg

Compared to my 10x5.5 v2 at 7.2kg each

Yes I've added 1.8kg to unsprung weight But needs must.

Still below 500kg though 😀

Im fitting a easy removable pre pump filter, that can be opened up and cleaned.

Thanks for the weight info - I knew you'd already know *wink*

Was the 7.2kg with a worn A032 and the 7.65kg new or were they comparable or do you think it is all in the ST centre?

Ideal with a reusable type filter, 5 mins and an air line and they are ready to go again.

Cheers

EDIT - Good job on the 500kg, how much are allowing for coolant water / engine oil in your spreadsheet

I have had issues with that very filter, its not big enough area wise for any decent flow, its a very small sintered filter inside typically used as a silencer for compressed air! I ran out of fuel on the rolling road, junked that for a proper canister filter with a paper element then no further issue.
What is annoying is that I spoke to Alex who runs Torques about the issue and advised that these filters aren't up to the job, and he should make clear that they are only suitable up to maybe 100bhp on his adverts. He hasn't done this.

Thats was about 800miles on the old tyres.

I have 2 linked spreadsheets

First one is the start weight before I stript the car (with 5litre of fuel, water and oil to max) then any parts that being replaced / removed I've then added or subtracted
depending. It's quite accurate I think, everything as been weighed, even after paint or powecoating.

The second spreed sheet is every item big or small that goes on from the bare shell.
It's broke down into each subframe, engine etc.

Both are looking approx the same. I'm hovering around 500kg. But got a few kegs up my sleeve.

Also in drag trim it will be 8kg lighter.

So 490kg with approx 140bhp

I've even weighted the new & old radiator with water to weigh them. And surprisingly the large front mount is 170g lighter. Shame the swirl header and additional water is another 1.2kg.

Interesting, you say that Tom, I've just blown through it and it does seem a little restrictive. I have another torque post filter with an6 connectors and that's rated at 30micron compared to this at 100micron.

I will be using this after the pump anyway, so might get rid of the torque pre filter after a few miles, foam bits depending.

I think it will cause you issues to be honest, the trouble is, it only needs to lean out once and you not notice it has, and its bye bye pistons.

Edit to add;

Its a shame they are shite, because otherwise they are a nice neat well made thing. But the filter element just isn't suitable.

I did pretty well the same, I started with the car as I got it, 2.0L NA @ 720kg!!, stripped it out to 669kg but without really lightening anything and then based my first spreadsheet on this complete car.

As I got to the point were I had weighed everything I did my second spreadsheet but made up of all the individual parts to get to the same 669kg weight and then added the weights of new and estimated lighter parts for the predicted weight.

Cheers

Interesting the 100micron and 30micro look exactly the same.

Fair enough, thanks for the advise. It should save me another 97g anyway. I'll just get a spare paper type filter. Looks like these are going back on eBay.

That looks like a low pressure low flow filter for a carb application. It has no place on any fuel injected engine...or as you say anything that has enough power to actually move a vehicle about.

And on the same note....their massive 30 micron filters dont filter for shit either. A friends car has had 8 injectors had to be cleaned because of them although he's now added more filters.

I've had 40 micron Holley/Earls filters on mine for several years and no issues.
