my gauge will be just before the stat, so I can compare that to the ecu and adjust as necessary.

Coming back. A few bits of welding to do and it can go for paint.

Yes. It's been here for a week:

http://www.paint-strip.co.uk/

It cost a fair bit, but I reckon it will save a few hundred quid of paint prep and I know every bit of rust is gone from the shell. Nowhere near the cost at SPL though.

I used a heat gun and a scraper to get stonechip off... worked a treat for me.

small hole in the heal board, couple of little bits on the a posts and a small patch on the inner wing where I welded it up. So not too bad.

Then there's the small matter of replacing the front valance which got mangled when I dropped it getting it of the trailer... :$

It only cost £425 + vat for the shell and both sub frames.

Thats a VERY good price! I would of had the mk1 done if I knew it was that cheap.

Still think it'll be ready for avon?

Looking good buddy, I'm going to have something similar done soon - looks like I should be taking a trip to Preston.

Very happy with the price and service, would recommend them Mark. It felt daft not to do it at that money. A lot of it will be offset in the paint prep cost anyway.

It's heading over to Cossie Rick's shop w/c 7th May for colouring in and I have masses of stuff ready and waiting to go on it. Hoping to get the bottom end balanced and the block in for boring this week. Avon should just about be do able... Can't wait!

the bonus of it is at least you know that absolutely all the rust is gone and there's definitely no nasty's left behind before an expensive paint job.

one day boost will be mine!

Looking good Andy.

Have you had any treatment done to the cavities in the shell? Otherwise how do you plan on treating them?

I'm thinking its a better option that the getting it e coated in some ways as it is inevitable that during prep that some of the coating would be sanded of. My friend has had good success with spraying his mini with zinc primer - in fact it has been stored for a few years now just in primer with no rust problems!

all the cavities are pretty accessible, so will be getting etch primer and stone chip in them via a hose front the gun

Dry decked the block the other week.

Think I may drill through the screws and make it moist desk.

FastCarl has spun me up a support bearing for my charger pulley. I wasn't happy that the shaft would take all the load without it.

Over the last few weeks I've sorted all the last shitty welding jobs and a few of the easy paint jobs.

Then it's back on the trailer tomorrow evening and of to CossieRick's workshop for colouring in. *smiley*
