The dish was increased to 11cc right?
Any chance of information how you increased the dish; dimensions wise?

I put a dish into some 21253s; 4mm depth and 5mm from the edge gets you about 11cc

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. The whole point of steel rods is to lighten the rod as much as possible but retain its strength and reliability. The SC rods are not particularly light in comparison to other steel rods, but then you get what you pay for. For example, I have weighed a set of Saenz rods with their rod bolts, and a set of SC rods without rod bolts. The Saenz rods with bolts were lighter than the SC rods without bolts, but were almost twice the price.

In my humble opinion, if you are considering steel rods, you should consider them for the right reason. That then logically follows on to what Robert is talking about, the piston. Going to the expense of a strong, lightweight rod, you should really consider the pistons too. A short compression height with a smaller diameter pin to match a set of longer rods. That combination alone increases reliability on high reving engines in more than one way.

I don't think there is any reliability issues with any rod, but consider that the Old school Miglia's used to use standard A+ rods at sustained RMP's is there any real need for anything else on an occasional trip to 8krpm? I'm sure you could spend the money better somewhere else on the car perhaps.

So my block is off to the machine shop tomorrow to get bored to 1293 and the usual 11 stud, cam bearings etc

Figured I'd work out what compression I'll end up with if I stick with current components..

18cc omega's
28.5cc in the head

Bollocks.

I need to lose about 5cc's somewhere to get it a bit more sensible

Reckon the head will take that much of a skim?

Think about it this way. The head gasket is roughly 2.8 to 3.4cc. depending on the shape of the chambers in the head you might be looking at removing twice the thickness of the head gasket from the head and or block

Pistons aren't in yet, going in for machining tomorrow so will have it decked flush I guess.

The head isn't that old, one of phils 36x31 offset jobbies.

Will get the measuring things out and see if I can work out how much of a skim 5cc requires. Can't see it being that much with chambers that big.

Aaahh, I've been using 3.8cc for a BK450.

That could be 1 less CC I need to lose, lol

On a stock chamber 0.012" removed gives roughly 1cc reduction in size. On your chamber shape iirc 9 to 10thou does the same.

I remember that thread Robert, 9 years on from it are we all using 3.95cc, 3.8cc or 2.8cc? lol

Cheers Phil, need to do some sums and see if it's worth me selling my current head to someone using cast smaller pistons and getting a new one with better shaped chambers.
How much real world difference am I really going to see between skimming my current large chambers or getting another head modified with smaller chambers?

I did consider that, but then it renders the block useless (to me) in the future
