Cometic gaskets are pretty good. They make them to different thicknesses too. My last one was a 60 thou (instead of usual 30 thou) for the KAD head. Handy for bringing the compression back down on an over skimmed head.

yep, as the 450's are iffy i thought i'd bite the bullet and go for a cometic until they come good again, fortunately its not to bad to get the head off.

its weeping at the front between 2&3, i'm guessing this may be related to the misfire too

lol, not like the KAD head then. I must admit, that is one of the nicer aspects of the 7 port over the KAD head...the quick head change.

ok I've caught up on the latest now!

that's an unlikely cause but glad it's all sorted now.

look forward to witnessing this with full boost.

it's getting famous this car. I've spoken to a few people around here now who have good things to say about it.

ok,

well, first off when i pulled the head it seems that the row of copper o rings for the waterways under the plugs were too thick (or the gasket material not thick enough) preventing the gasket from being clamped properly, this resulted in water pissing out the front of the engine, all over the plugs, the orangey rusty residue then played havock with the spark.

also on a couple of the plug leads (zetec ones?) where i had trimmed the rubber back to get them in under the plenum, there was a bit of metal showing, i think under boost the spark was finding an easier route to ground via the plenum. trimming the leads to a better length and adding some right angle plug caps seems to have cured this.

i used these... the ones right st the bottom.

http://shop1.actinicexpress.co.uk/shops/pa...gs__Honda_coils

also as iain says there was a broken outer spring on no1 exhaust, i'd noticed a few back fires recently...

anyway, just been out for a test drive...

the misfire is gone!!!!

for some reason there is about 5 psi more boost, so i've taken out the MBC to get the boost down to about 15-17psi.

also the water temp seems a bit more stable now, could be down to the metal head gasket counucting heat to the block more, i could be imagining it though.

still needs maping properly, but at least the afr's are on the rich side, in the 10's.

still cant hold it in a straight line on a bar of boost though!

Oh,

Andy, while i remember, are you getting flanges made for your wategate at some point? if so can you get a couple of blanking ones?

I keep speaking to people and they know about it.

like someone that's working with us. he delivered something to your work and saw your car, then telling me about your car without even knowing I knew you.

or the lad that used to live oposite you saying the other day how mad your car is.
