No progress of late, been working and stuff as usual.

This was sat at home waiting for me when I got back tonight so couldn;t resist taping it on to see how much work is going to be needed.

Never really liked most of the old front spoilers (I thing the name is quite apt!), however it really suits the clubby front

I've always liked old jap cars and the styling in general so one of these has been on my list since the start of the rebuild.

I've got a mk1 golf splitter just in case this one is too much work. Doesn't help being a fibreglass front end that's nowhere near the shape it should be.

So I finally got round to stripping down the engine I blew up at Pod 3 years ago. I'd left it alone as I didn't want it lying round the garage in bits while the shell got sorted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTjw3yCh3bQ

Managed to drive it out of Pod to Tesco to call the breakdown and get a tow home. Was very poorly though and running on 2. I wound the boost right out as I knew it was going to be the last ever run for that engine, it had done me really well considering it was only built with 120hp in mind.

I'll let the pictures do the talking..

Piston 1

Piston 3

Bit of a mark in cylinder 3

Rest of the engine is in surprisingly good condition!

Picked up a std 1275 block from Rob Gavin at the weekend so I guess that means it's time to start getting the new engine built. I've been collecting parts ready for it so it should be a reasonably quick build hopefully.

Need to decide whether to go forged rods or modified A+, opinions anyone?

Whats the new engine spec? Id say A+ rods would be fine for most.

Yeah that's the ones, been in there for years.

New engine build is just a 1293, forged omegas. I'll be getting the crank worked too. I'd like to rev it to 8k maybe a bit more hence thinking of forged rods.

I don't think forged rods are needed, the DON is limited to 9200 hard cut, but we've seen nearer 9500 on the ECU tell tale before now. Assuming you are not going to be holding at those revs for a sustained period I'd say lightened balanced A+ rods would be OK.

its the weight of the pistons that matters rpm/rod wise.

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

That's the main thing I need to figure out, guessing it'll have to be something custom.

to go that high i'd start looking at K heads TBH,

5 port you'll want a decent runner setup to make the cam work properly at high revs, and maybe somthing like a RE13 not ground on a wide LCA,

rods wise, I'd be looking at the SC ones, basically how much to get a set of rods worked and a set or ARP's vs SC's rods.

I'm definitely staying 5 port, I like the old school.

I'm not after a huge amount more power but if I'm building a new bottom end then I may as well see if I can squeeze a bit more out of it.

That was my thinking with the forged rods, it's not a great deal more once you've had normal ones modified and got a set of bolts.

I'll have a look into the re13, I'll admit I know naff all about cams so I'll start doing a bit of reading up. Just feel I've reached the limits of what the ph2 can give me.
