So, got myself a 62mm throttle body from a Cosworth engine, which means that I need a plenum 43cm long to have 1300cc whilst mainting the same diameter as the throttle body (thus not reducing gas velocity)

Then all I will need is to mount individual inlet manifolds of equal length to each port, with an injector mounted at the very throat of the inlet.

Just out of curiosity - where would I fit the nitrous injectors?

I donated, but somehow didn't get the label! :(

Canada, eh?

One thing you have to keep in mind with the throttle body size is if it's too big you will have no sensitivity at small throttle angles. Crack it a few percent and the engine may have enough air to run at 5000 RPM. If it's too small it won't get enough air to run at 5000 RPM even at full throttle.

I don't know what the right size is, but I started with 50 mm. Theory says this will flow plenty of air for a 120 BHP engine. I have noticed in my tours of the bone yards that turbo engines have much smaller throttle bodies than NA engines.

So, maybe I should look at what is being fitted to turbo 1.3s?
Toyota Glanza perhaps?

Seems the clearest answers are sitting right under my nose... just found out that my Megane Coupe 1.6e has a 50mm throttle body... but I'll have a look at the Glanza one before committing myself. Anyone know of any Toyota tuners who might bin the standard throttle body to fit a bigger one?

I don't know off the top of my head but a quick look on ebay will tell you - you should see lots of them for sale there. If a 1.75" SU can flow enough air for 300 bhp then I wouldn't think a 50mm TB will be over restrictive.

We don't have the Glanza turbo as an official import over here,

http://www.glanza.co.uk/

I found lots of sites on the car, so worth googling the comminity, the car has quite a following so should be able to find out more fairly easily.

Toyotas are interesting in that they can donate their vital organs.

Unfortunately, we have to admit that if Rover built their cars the way Toyota did, then we'ld probably have had 100% reliable, turbocharged 16 valve Minis coming off the production line...

Still, I have to admit that the Glanza is one hell of a fast car, especially when sorted out... these little devils are running in the mid-12s over here. I just hope that my 7-port would get me to admire a Glanza getting smaller and smaller in my rear-view mirror!

Had a look at the Glanza site, I think the engine is quite close to what I want to achieve. It's 1331cc - mine's gonna be either 1310 or 1330 and it's got a KKK turbocharger with a total output of 130bhp, which is close to what I want to get... So it's off to the breakers to seek a Glanza throttle body!

I think you will be producing a fair bit more than 130 bhp IMO :) Modest chap!

What size is the TB?

Peter,
I just dont want to start shooting numbers...
The throttle ody 'm lookng for will probably be in the 50mm region... depends on what I find on the Glanza, as that would really give me an indcation. If it's good for Toyota's engneers, then it's good enough for me...

OK I seem to be getting the hang of things now... next step seems to be finding the necessary cash to do it up!

I'll post the throttle body size of the cars I find for the info of the others who might wish to do something this crazy!

Cheers,

Hi,
I don't know the availablity of ford zetec engines over in Malta, but as far as I know the 1.6, 1.8 & 2.0 are all interchangeable but have different size butterflys. So you can swap them till you find the right size, without making another plenum! HTH
Cheers,
Gavin. :)

I'll have a look at the scrappies and I'll check. However, in Malta we dont scrap our cars too easily, so Zetecs will rarely be in the breakers'.

Why not just modify an old SU- they have a decent enough butterfly valve, add a throttle pot and bingo!

So if your getting the plenum and intercooler sorted, does this mean you've got a head?

Malta,

what kind of setup are you looking at for the intercooler and plenum, if we are both going down the same route it may be worth seeing if we can save some money by getting two done at the same time.

If tyou interested drop me a PM.

OK now MPI fuel tank also sorted! Next in line is getting the bodyshell done... I'm just thinking of doing the bulkhead box anyway to get some extra clearance... anyone got any ideas how to restiffen the shell to make up for it? I'm fitting a rollcage for sure!
