Here are some pictures I forgot to upload earlier:

This is with the roll cage fully and completly bolted up!

I have spent the last couple of days fitting the fibreglass panels up. I wanted to fit them first to try and minimise the risk of scratches when building! (I could easily imagine a drill bit slipping!)

To support the front I have used some threaded bar mounted into the subframe. I didnt like the idea of the fragile fibreglass sat directly on this so I have fibreglassed in 4 penny washers (two for each bar) to hopefully stop cracking and damage occuring.

Thats it for now.... I will rebuild the rear subframce over the next couple of days. Then I will be at uni for a week. AFter that however I will crack on with the respray!

Your Dump valve looks a bit 'flacid'..... That's not going to impress anyone.

Gav - the only bars in the car are what cant with the cage as far as I know the rear horizontal between the wheel arches is not suitable for a harness bar. But dont quote me on that.

The cage is the satety devices multipoint

Maybe I could erect some crome pipe to bling it up at an angle to impress people, would this do?

On the harness bar subject, personally I'd have no reservations in using that rear cross brace as a place to attach harnesses to.

The way I would do it would be to loop the webbing round the bar and then fasten it back to itself using the buckle adjuster.

I have used this method in a few rally cars before now and they have passed MSA scrutineering no problem.

So impressed at the speed this has come on and the quality of the work. Looks really nice.

I feel totally ashamed that i've been such a girl about just replacing a subframe on mine. *blush*

wow, just noticed the space in the engine bay.

What benifits will you get from this? apart from placing the beers on it on a hot summers day, whilst peaople admire you work?

The engine bay space is mainly for a big split pair of weber side draught carbs....

Not really any use for me as I have no plans to change from the turbo SU. It does give somewhere usefull to put tools on though!

I'm going out to the garage now to drop off my rear subframe. Should have it stripped, rust treated and painted by this evening (providing nothing snaps/breaks) and i'll then rebuild it with new seals and recon the arms if they need it.

Wish me luck

No Nic they are not chrome. They will be painted blue when I have time!

I was fortunate with my rear subframe. It has all been recondioned in recent years. The arms still had bloody stickers on!

Gave the subby a good wirebrush and sand. I then rust treated it and hammerited it.

I took out the boot floor, however I wish I hand not. The weight difference between the metal floor and the curley carbon fibre one is not noticeable by hand - My bathroom scales couldnt get an accurate figure - but belive me there was nothing in it

On the subject of weight my roll cage weights 66kg roughly.....

Anyway onto painting, its been hard graft! Especially with my tiny 1hp compressor.

I have put the first top coat on, honestly it looks better in the pictures than in real life, the flash also makes it look more blue! In real life it has an aquary tint to it.

There are a couple of nasty runs, but hopefully after a good flatting back and polish it should be ok!

Wish me luck for tomorrow

Looks good Dan, as I am sure you know just get plenty of coats on and you can then always cut it back to get the finish you want..........
