I was thinking of starting a build thread when I joined a few years ago. However, I found a fair amount of negativity surrounding bike engines in cars from reading various posts and if I am honest this didn't make me feel particularly comfortable sharing my build!

There are some really trick projects on here and I have, (well yes... stolen!) some really good ideas to save weight. I think sometimes people just need to remember there is no `right` way of doing a mini because it is an expression of their own taste. Personally I'm only into lightweight track cars & period modded stuff (basically it has to be on 10s for me) but if someone wants to stance their car on 13x8 allycats or build a 'track inspired' show car then good luck to them I say.

Well from what I am reading there will be lots of new build pages to read over Xmas lol.

I have had lots of negative comments about my mk1 over the years, but fuck it it's mine *smiley*

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

I lurk most days but only really interested in the track or diy engineering stuff. Built rather than bought where possible and the further from standard the better! (within reason)

I'd love to compete against some of the serious minis on here but i dont think i'll ever get round to competing south of the border. If anyone fancies a challenge and a go on the best hillclimb in the UK then i can recommend Doune Hillclimb in 2016 *smiley*

I've had a year out this year, but will be updating my build thread over xmas and hopefully be competing for the full season next year.

I've only been on here a few years but when searching through historical threads, there does seem to be a wealth of knowledge spattered with petty comments and backchat that have resulted in a few super knowledgeable people like JohnK vacating the scene..

I haven't been on for a while due to moving into my first house, which also means i have sweet f all money because of it. The most attention my mini has had since is rolling it into my freshly painted garage!

If i ever see people on TMF struggling or in the need for TM knowledge i alway point them over here. It's just full of pretty much all you need to know with added verbal crap but i like it. It's all good! :)

I should hopefully get some time over Christmas to add to my build.

as everyone has said life gets in the way of the projects...in my case these floods have not been helpful as my block was under water at the machine shop for around a week.......

Im not as active here anymore.. But I still drop in a few times a week.

The people that know me on here know I still have a mini but it's not turbo'd so I don't have that much to add etc.

And like Alex says, I seem to have less free time than I did 10 years ago :)

Time is certainly my biggest issue with progress. Back when i was a student and when i got my first job (before marriage, house, kid etc) i probably spent an easy 10 hours a week at the workshop. Now, i'm lucky if i get 10% of that. I've probably been a good weekend off finishing the metro for the last 6 weeks and cant see me getting any time soon.

Life takes over

Always keen to see the cars being used properly.

Noting the comments about a lot of members originally being in their 20's with life getting in the way, where are the members following through? Costs now prohibitive maybe, compared to buying a cheap mini and knackered metro?

I keep a close eye on the build threads but don't have so much to say these days, most of my questions have been anwered. I will be updating by build when anything noteworthy occurs.

im probably here a few times a week mostly cause as other people have voiced its pretty dead here for a few months. i must say though that i just assumed some off the 'core' were dealing secret coversations off the forums for the next round off RWYB sessions :)

still working on my car; well engine. dont really post updates mostly i assume the forum is quiet so no one will be interested. but i'll try to be more proactive at sharing

Last night I was given.a stern talking to by a 'local enthusiast' about getting my car back on the road and having some fun in it next year. Unfortunately I couldn't hear him over the mi16 at the red line...

Maybe I'll get the spanners out over Christmas.

Interesting set of comments here.

I'm in a situation where my kids have grown up so I have a little cash and time to spend on my projects.

What's lacking is motivation which I used to get from this forum.

I'll keep updating my build threads. But things move on so quick and attitudes change so much that what was of great interest when it started is no longer fashionable.

Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."

Having a wife and kids has never stopped me doing the stuff I want in the garage. I get the kids in bed and then straight into the garage til 10pm, even if i've been working since 5am.

I find it far more relaxing of an evening than watching the box. also, I get less nagged in the garage.

I'll be coming to doune in the single seater in 2016. Grt yourself down to Harewood, not as far as you think, and a great hill.

as i under stand it most of the older guys err that should be long serving members have lernt the hard way but also posted ther finding way back when and i guess im trying to say that for the new guys "me" that see there cars and turn into the school boy that wants a nice car like thers might find it hard to dig back in the old post and jump from one to the other to assemble the puzzle and when dumb qustions or comments are made most dont want to add anything or say hey back when we where in your place we did this but then went on to find that that worked far better

i get that you guys work so hard on adapting and elvolving things but come on guys i think most guys would rather see a few hundred boosted minis rather than a duzen that are full of hush hush secrets

maby its just me that thinks this way but i try to help people maby im not helping but i can tell you that id have had my mini done years ago if guys had said what i need and what it should be capable of and where to get the parts if it was like that i think id have been more than happy to fund the forum quite substantially and the guys doing the hard yards

end of the day the dumb guy "me" will always follow behind the smart guys so your never gonna lose the my cars faster or better ur still going to have the crowd around you going wow how the hell did he do that

this is why ive had 2 other project since i started the mini and shoved it aside to rott away also a fair part in why i bought a bike get on and ride

it must be just me

Well I'll have some updates once I've got my finger out. It's the same old story. Wedding, honeymoon, house, skint.

I have a collection of bits waiting to go onto the car and a man cave to sort. 2016 will be much less busy, so hopefully I'll have the updates sorted.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Sounds like you need to insist on having the mini as a wedding car, thus being allowed time and money to get it ready!
