the oil holes should not be in the oil film high pressure region of the journal. I thought i said that?.....

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

That may be the case but it doesnt mean it is right. Trying to disprove my comments by saying "the guy knows his stuff" does not change the fact that some oil holes are in the wrong place reducing the load carrying ability in a high load region. Same can be said about MED modified cranks, or at least the one I had.

perhaps an example is in order to show the correct placement away from this high load regin?

i think the torsional stress (crank flex) is of more concern on our 3 main cranks than the position of an oil hole as if the shell and journal are not 100% parallel then what good is a "correctly orientated hole" about as good as a cheep hooker?

dont you think if the crank under such stress that the oil hole location has an effect that the cylender pressure is at the point there is sugnifcant torsnals in the crank that make the contact/oil film not as it should be for ideal load shearing??

not trying to put blood in the piranha fish tank here just dont think its that cirtcal that the oil hole be drilled at X angle to witch the cylender pressure is lowest i think there is much more to be worried about with such high cylender pressures that the crank twists and the parall oil clearnace is not such and grabs an edge of the shell rather than the oil film being over come

perhaps some one can say what oil clearances they run and how much ft/lbs or cylinder pressure its makeing and where the oil holes are

what im getting at is real world vs math/predictions we see so meanny gear box falures bit not meany bearings that grab or fuck out? surely its not to critcal where the oil hole is we melt pistons before bearings so dose it matter?

Trying to disprove your comments?

I had read what you said and thats your opinion and thats fine. I was merely stating that Id been informed by a friend of mine who has built a number of mini 7 winning engines that the guy who made the crank knows his stuff.
The crank actually came out of a miglia engine that was built by a well known engine builder who deemed it good for use in a high powered motor. I have chosen to use this crank in my motor. If it fails it fails however I doubt it will due to the fact that its already been used and come from a credible source of modified cranks who has 18 years experience.

I do respect yours or anyone elses opinion but thats it, its just your opinion, I have no need to disprove your comments. I just have to respect them.

You may take what i said as 'opinion' but in doing so, you then suggest the published reaserch as opinion too? I suppose that could be wrong too.

Interesting conversation here guys. Seems there's pros and cons to the extra drilling, although it has reduced the surface area of the journal by (at a guess) 25% at the 90* angle mid stroke. Does it give extra oil where needed or just act as a oil pressure relief. It all depends on the pressure within the big end when on the power or compression stroke and whether the oil pump can over come it. In my 'opinion' lol, I expect the big end bearings won't last as long as with a factory style crank, but then it is going in a toy, will it matter? Naaaa

This Project has been sat in my mates work-shop for the past 2 years. Is anybody interested in buying the parts and carrying it on? Let me know and if there's any interest I'll list all of the parts I have :)

The head still looks like that and still needs machining, the engine still needs machining too I think, I have the specialist components kit with the top plate switched for a supercharged version, the specialist components ancilliary kit, Injectors/carbs whatever there called. The cams, vales, cover etc (Cover needs machining) might have other stuff too but I'll have to take a look. I do have someone on first refusal on these parts who has already been in touch but yeah if your mate is interested tell him to get in touch
