You've met me very briefly! I know what it means now because Carl has told me, whatever he does while I'm away is his own business, I do not need to know!

I've been following this whilst working outside haha. Gearbox and transfer case is back on, and I've received the flexible intake pipe today, so I've fitted the air filter to the 2.5" to 2" exhaust adapter (the only thing I could find suitable that wasn't flexible as I can't really bolt to silicone) and the flexi hose to the other end of the filter size adapter. The other end of the flexi pipe slides perfectly over the turbo intake.

Looks good will be nice to see another 998 turbo around, though this must be at least the second that'll be finished before me!!

Quick question though, did you get the bore's de-glazed for the new rings?

Engines in the hole! But sadly minispares did another mess up and gave us the wrong headgasket :(

The head and everything else should start going back on now ready for the weekend plus the few bits left needed will be ordered. I'm starting to get a bit nervous about starting it up next weekend now though!

What happened to the clutch cover where the starter motor goes in, it looks a bit has broken off?

Yeah it's when my mate tried removing a flywheel when he had that engine, slipped a bit with the lumphammer haha. It's been like it for ages, can't really see it when the starter is on and it's not under stress or anything, more cosmetic than anything

The bores had a hone mike, wouldn't fit new rings without honing first!

Swansea boyo!

Sorry for not updating this for ages, I'll do a much better update when I've got time during the week! But for those who don't have me or Carl on facebook this happened yesterday! First flick of the key..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwnKsLqDJko...aZaDhmatc_0IFOQ sorry it's a link, I'm not sure how to do videos!
Then the second time this happened, the smoke is due to me spilling a LOT of oil out of the rocker cover Thursday night all down the back of the block haha, it was pretty late!
The AFR gauge was showing it running extremely lean and then 13-14 but going back lean until it died.

It's the needle and spring that came with the rebuild kit. Videos should be viewable now!

Any advice for getting it to idle properly? Obviously I would know where to start with an n/a a series with a distributor, but this is a bit new to me with MJ, the turbo isn't yet plumbed up to the plenum either.

Just needs a bit of loving to nurse it to the rolling road in the week! We just couldn't believe it started first time, I expected it to take a few turns but he went. Oil pressure came really easily too with no leaks (apart from my massive one!) or water leaks either which is a relief. All that's left is to sort the catch tank, put my dash back together and get it running sweeeeet! It's been a long two months without him and he put up a good old fight but it should be hitting the road towards the end of the week *happy*. Massive thanks to everyone for their help too!

I would finish the pluming first mate, then see if it's the same.

As mine don't seem to idle right when the ic is not plumed in.

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

good effort... and good luck at the rollers.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Thanks man! A real shame it didn't make Combe but there's always next year when it's had the paint sorted and the original front seat are back in. Winter is going to be tough on him this year as there's a few areas showing through the paint (just under a year and a half after a respray!), nothing serious of course but he's he got a lovely big scratch in the boot while being parked up which needs attention :(

Plumb it up. Put a basic safe map on it and shove a BDD in there. Get the idle to about 13.5:1 when its warm that should safely get you to the rollers.

I've probably got a map which will do the job. Drop me your email addy.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

sounds well, im gonna guess its running megajolt?

try setting the map up so the idle advance doesnt fluctuate, if need be set a completely flat map @ 18 degrees

then get it to idle at a higher speed 1500 rpm or more then tweek the fueling so its about 13.5 -14 , let it warm up and slowly wind down the rpm.
if the rpms start to fluctuate and or afrs i would look at the carb its maybe a sticky piston/needle or something

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*
