I've had a look on your build thread and there's not really much information. Where is all the Carbon from? Any more info on your engine spec? Done all the work yourself?

Some carbon is from Curley carbon fibre, arc angels and a company in America has made some of it, the majority of the work has been done by endaf Owens? At Owens fabrication, mini magazine have done the shoot and write up and will be featured in February, lee

So it's wet layup carbon/fibreglass then? Not that lightweight then??

I wondered when you were going to say something Steve, lol.

I remember the bonnet you made for Simon on here , he popped in to my place on his way back from you and the item in question was as stiff as steel and weighted nothing, but then again it should shouldn't it,lol

My point exactly. I get really wound up when hearing about most 'genuine carbon fibre' , and what people believe they've got.

Simons bonnets were far lower quality than I was ultimately happy with, but they showed what was really to be expected from 'lightweight' carbon parts.

Anyway, back on topic, I also need some decent driveshafts.........

Wet layup carbon is lighter than steel, but, at the end of the day it's just a pretty looking fibreglass. The proper lightweight stuff has no shine to it whatsoever.

Apologies, but probably all of the dry stuff I have seen on various cars has been almost matte in sheen, perhaps satin at the most. Nothing like what 'show carbon' looks like.

Show carbon is normally heavily lacquered.

Any fibreglass or carbon will only ever be as good as the mould it was made from.

When I need a piece of flawless flat sheet, I make it off of toughened glass.

A lot of manufacturers would rather polish or lacquer their parts. As tbh its much easier when mass producing.

Hi mate, I hope I don't sound like a dick in this post.

But how have you got it so light? As you still have both sub frames? Also a full cage? And I am sure them wheels are not that light? The Eng still looks full fat under there.

Have you had it on some real scales ? ?

Now before you think I am having a go, I have been looking at weight saving so much over the last 2years! And you only have to look at my build page to see how much work I have done to get mine down.

Thanks simon.

Hi mate, I know how much you have done I have read your build thread all 63pages, my car is not just a quick build either it's taken 3in a half years, I had it weighed at my local weight bridge so not sure if that exact to the kg but 465kg is what I got! Not a full cage either, but if you compare your steel to carbon fibre mate there is a massive difference, for example I have saved 30kg with carbon doors with have no locks, doors cards or even handles, with force racing hinges, also I have even drilled holes in the cage before fitting!haha I know the whole point of a cage is for safety but I just wanted to get as light as I possible could! Cheers

You drilled holes in a rollcage? I am at a loss for words. If you have an accident and you have that and it breaks, it's going to cause more harm than good. Mayaswell remove it, do the weight loss you're trying to achieve and your own safety a favour.

I can't remove the roll cage the shell has massive flex because I have cut of the roof and removed the boot floor and replace with carbon fibre, next year I will have a custom cage which endaf recons will be lighter than the safety devices.

I remember seeing the updates that endaf was posting on his FB as he was working on the car. I get what your saying about the plastic doors, but your cage is the same as mine. Apart from I have not compromised the safety of the cage by drilling it! WTF that's the maddest thing I have ever seen on here!

When you said you have run out of ideas, I can see loads of weight you could lose out of that car!
