If the blue dot is anything like the one in my picture its an up rated 1275 clutch from minispares.

Just reading up on rts clutches. I have two very clutch set ups in the barn but unsure what they are. One has a dark blue dot on it. The other doesn't have any on it but the engine it's on is 1275 metro I belive. Any ideas what the dark blue one could be? Also is there a chart of what set ups should cope with what? What the mind can conceive the mini can achieve

Depends how you are doing it. I think the best way is with c/s bolts and nuts rather than tapping the cover. You do need to be careful you dont have much sticking out on the pressure plate side which ever way you do it. Made that mistake. |

I've not bothered, I think the lugs are reduced hight anyway on the med and mini spares ones. In my experience the posts are taller such that there spring is under flat. It does seem counter intuitive, but when you look at the data for these type of springs, the manufacturer designs them such that the clamping force is just under peak. As the clutch wears it achieves peak and then drops off again to the point that slip should occur before the wear is so great that the rivets are starting to wear through on the friction plate. This is why they recommend the clutch is replaced as a whole, friction plate and pressure plate together. Austin/ Rover only ever used to sell a complete assembly, flywheel included. |

I used NAS bolts which are probably the highest grade easily available.

I'm going to be making an RTS clutch for my build. Out of interest, who did you go to to get your assemblies balanced? |

I never use the nuts. Never had a problem leaving them of. But should be the same as it does not set the space between the spring and bearing. Its now a thickness of a spring closer so would even disengage sooner. Could be wrong but that is how i see it.

Finally got it back from being balanced! What do I set the throw out stop nut to? 6.5mm as standard or is it different being a RTS? you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

Set the throw out stop to 6.5mm as standard. With the spring lever ratio, this equates to roughly 2mm throw out on the friction plate. less than 6.5mm throw out adjustment might see the clutch not fully disengage, much more than 6.5mm and the spring fingers will bind on the centre boss and apply excessive load on the crank thrusts which defeats the point of the RTS.
