Passed MOT at the first attempt *Clapping*

Now for some final tweeks to the fueling and I can get back to my car :)

As a footnote to this thread, I thought that it would be worth pointing out that this is a very cost effective way of injecting a 5 port, particularly if you build the MS3 yourself.

The savings due to using the MPi inlet which are readily available on ebay, cover the cost of the extra wideband and cam sensor needed for port injection.

Big plus point is that you can monitor and equalise fueling to the inner and outer cylinders.

I find diy autotunes system a bit confusing ...

sojust to check , paul , that is the ms 330k at 385 usd(239gbp)
and the ms3xpander at 105usd ?(65gbp)

have I got that right ,(bought in the us prices .)

That's right.

Even cheaper than I thought. *smiley*

So, last September Axel cleaned the car and covered it up for the winter. We then focused on the other two cars over the winter, but a couple of weeks ago he got it out for a short run.

I made a couple of tweeks to the map, activated noise filtering to get rid of the occasional synch loss and a couple of minor corrections to the setup and she's running great.

Fueling is nearly there:

I can highly recommend this approach to injecting a Mini. Costs is less than £1000 for port injection, including 2 widebands.

Simple setup using autotune, no rolling road or mapper required, just a bit of common sense *happy*

Now, where did I put that GT1749V ???

Autotune is great. Get a nice stable tune, change a part or adjust the cam, then see exactly where the VE changed after a quick run. Can't wait to get mine up and running again.

There's a bit more to it than just Autotune. We need to adjust the fueling balance between the inner and outer cylinders by changing the injection timing but the Delta AFR plot tells us what needs adjusting. Autotune then brings the AV AFR inline.

Good stuff! Is this running a single pulse or have you switched over to two pulses per injector?
Have you made any progress with the modified mpi manifold with 4 injectors?

This one is single pulse. The next one will be pulse per cylinder.

No progress on the 4 injector MPi manifold recently, just collecting stuff for the VNT control and the remote turbo manifold.

The priority is to get the other two cars on the road. Axel is, at this very moment, grafting with a pedal box and master cylinder on his brothers car. He's not interested once they are finished :/

nice update. thanks Paul. Are you able to change the range on the afr scales to show the variation a little more? e.g. so -2 < delta AFR < 2 is used?

You know, I did not realise that you could do that. Gives a better view of where the injection timing changes need to be made.

I'll update, with more precision, once we have done a bit more tuning.

yeah sometimes you get only a few outliers so the auto scale makes everything look quite dandy, when in fact the majority is out by more than 1afr but doesn't show up that well. It's also useful to turn off the transients and rapid rpm changers.

Hi Paul,

How're you getting on with the tune? did you settle for long pulse or two short ones?

I've found a great aid to tuning my short pulse setup. You can add custom fields to the autotune in TunerStudio. Simply write in (abs(afr1 - afr2)) > .5
so that only when you have AFRs withing (for example) 0.5, does the auto tune adjust the fueling. I've found this gives me one less parameter to try and get correct. (I don't often have the chance for someone to drive me around whilst I tune and this allows me to tune the whole map on general drives).

Thanks for the tuning tip.

Apart from an occasional trip around the block, no more progress has been made. Axel's been collecting parts for a Midget resto and I've been working on another engine.

Both the other cars are going to be using all 8 injector outputs!

Apparently the car is going to the Pod on Sunday, so I've been told!
