Are you going to fit the full oversill or cut it down? Reason i ask is you've got a pretty good shell and oversills are a future issue in the waiting

Going to chop it down mate, not wanting to cover anything up.

I have looked at passenger side and found it has an over sill fitted.

Going to order a passenger side one and remove all old rusty sills and replace complete panels.

Chose not to cut down new sills and just remove all of old ones...

I did say I was removing all the rust and decided to start on the already fitted oversill, it hid a few demons lol

Piccs from today...

I was going to use the two post ramp to lift the car onto the gear box stand, until I thought about trying to lift it up and when I did I nearly through it over my head its that light *happy*

Passenger side done...

Now to start on the drivers side...

Also tried this fibreglass boot on, it sits quite well.

But I have also managed to get a carbon fibre boot and rear bumper which I am collecting tomorrow, the carbon one looks as standard just in carbon...

You know that means I want to get carbon arches now lol

You'll have to let me know how well that bootlid fits, any idea what make it is? Gotta love carbon goodies!

It fits perfect bud as I removed it from a mini.

No idea of the make of it either bud.

Drivers side 90% done now too.

Need to get a new corner scuttle as the one I have, doesn't line up anywhere near enough to make a good fit, so will try one from mini spares this week.

Now looking to order all the steel for the role cage...

I'd like to build a roll cage for the estate.. I dunno if my welding would be up to the job though!

I am still learning to weld myself bud but I find it easier to weld thick wall steel compared to thin sheet.

The reason you SHOULD have cut the new sill down is that they are a serious water trap and rust propigator. Its not that they just 'cover' any previous rust, its the fact the rot the car out quicker!

The scuttle corners you can buy are a load of crap, my mate got one the other day and it was piss poor. Might be bet getting a new gen scuttle, less hassle in the long run mate, or find another good scuttle corner going from a scrap shell or something

The passenger side one was spot on mate, I'm sure I can find one that'll suit the drivers side.

I'm guessing this was a reply to Sprocket. You fancy carrying an excess 1.3kg and reducing torsional rigidity of the chassis. Just because you simply cant be bothered?

Good luck with your "track" car.

There really are some first class idiots on this board.

It's a learner track car for a 9 year old!

Couldn't be bothered?

I chose not to, l looked and removed all of original sill/outer skin.

Theres no more skins on this floor pan now than there would be on a standard!

If all you want to do is post smart arse comments in a tread, go and do it some where else.

I'll think twice before I update again, as I've never been on a forum that hold so many portentous users.

I think the main lesson to learn here is safety and strength.

As its for a 9yr old the first port of call is safety, now all of the pattern crap is made from piss poor steel. the inner wing/ sill area is a strong place originally.

Just a thought !!

He would have caged up the car and he does know what he is doing, I don't see why people flame others so much over an oversill. Yes it's not an original replication, but how many cars on the road have around 3 crusty sills covered by another oversill. I don't see a problem in using an oversill IN PLACE of an original sill. If the person who fits them wants to replace them again sooner rather than later then so be it.

i cannot believe a new member can come on here and talk to respected members like shit and get away with it for so long

you pissed me off right at the beginning when you started with the blunt attitude and it went on and on to the point that out of respect i did not post anything in this thread because im a firm believer that if you have nothing nice to say then dont fucking say it
every one has there opinion and are free to speak it openly, weather you listen to it, take offence by it or be a cock about it is down to you personally
you say your learning both with the car and with welding, well fucking listen to advice given, people on this forum have been there done it and willingly tell about the problems they had
members freely came you you with friendly advice and you kick off??? dude all there trying to do is help that is what we are all about that what has brought this forum forward so far,
the only smart arse comment in the thread span from you and then peoples reactions to you

serious reality check over
