Hi mate,

Just want to say great build and wanted to find what seat are they, they look amazing?

Seats are Leather retrimmed Lotus Elise, with adjustable modified Elise runners (both drivers side, as passanger is fixed in the Elise) Seats are quite light at 7kg each, but runners are probibly 4kg each. Could be made alot lighter, but I'm not bothered about weight on this build.

Looks lovely that. I was planning something similar, but I was going to try and lenghten the centre branch to make them all equal.

the design of this was originally how i wanted the high flow type to be, but the inlet manifold really limits the route the centre branch can take. these work out to be the same length (or close to) when you use the centre line as the length. the centre branch looks short but its longer than it looks...that what i tell the Mrs anyway! lol

Took the car to ggmotorsport at Zcars last Friday for a full mapping session. This gives me a base figure to work from for the turbo upgrade.

Car achieved 97bhp @ 6186rpm and 90ft/lb torque.

Spec is 1330cc
Omegas
SC 7 Ports head, unmodified
10.5 - 1 CR (a bit high, I know)
1.3 Med Rockers
SW5 Camshaft, timmed at 106
helical box & drops
3.1FD

Results were as suspected, I recently spoke to Specialist Components, would had managed 100bhp, from a 1380 with the SW5. The 7 port gained 10-14bhp over my stage 4 Vmaxscart 5 port with SC 5 port injection kit.

There is plenty of torque, and it drives like a modern car, but defiantly needs boost!

Plan for the turbo upgrade will be

New 1380 or 1430 block & pistons (1430 if I can find a decent set of S rods)

Kent 274 Camshaft
9.75-1 CR
1.3 Rockers
Helical box & drops
Verto RTS with 2x998 springs
2.95FD
Quaife ATB
Newly rebuild Renault 5 T2 Turbo
custom Matty manifold
custom Plenum, Single throttle body with Idle control valve
190cc Bosch injectors, therefore limited to about 130bhp
Dta S40 Ecu, batched injection with wasted spark.
Boost limited and 3D mapped to hold consistent torque curve below 120ft/lb maybe 4-5 psi
Bosch recirculating dump valve
Small intercooler or charge cooler to reduce lag.

If it could get a wide ratio straight cut box, then I'd maybe consider it. I'm trying to keep it quiet, and great for long motorway runs hence 2.95FD. I've always got my red mini for 15-20psi. This one is just so much nicer to drive. since turning 30 I really hate my straight drops and cabin noise. Knowing me, it will get a boost upgeade soon after completion anyway.

I see your point,

I find the SC box in mine fine ratio wise with a 3.1, should be ok with a 2,9 too...

helical drops should still keep it quiet in 4th, maybe somthing to try on the future.

I have a SCCR Gearset and 3.1FD in the red one, 1st gear can be a pain around town & especially on hills etc (probably worse due to grey Pre Verto). My concern is the clubman weights about 200kg more. I suppose the clubman does have a higher CR, milder cam, heavy flywheel and a good point on 4th.

Why doesn't any body make wide ratio straight cuts, I think they would be much better for forced induction road cars.

Small update on Matty manifold, well not so small really. Complete redesign due to my poor measures.

I really must say Matty as done a fantastic job, I can't thank him enough for all his effort, determination and patience with different ideas and designs. It now fits perfectly.

Just waiting for machining on my new block and full steam ahead on new engine and gearbox build.
