what does your source say is different.

I bought an auto engine for its crank figuring it would be nice and unabused, and it was the only part of the engine that was fucked as the oil pump had come loose!

nothing specific moly just a general sucking of teeth and frowning, you know ,usual british negativity. lol

I heard somthing about the tail being slightly longer (shrugs) tmh I cant see that making a diference just means the clit plate will be in a different position on the primary gear, and the clutch levers at a different geometry.

there is no such thing as an auto crank, never has been. I've known this for some time, all you needed to do was ask *happy*

so this looks interesting , my piston versus a turbo piston ,

and a en15 a plus rod versus a en16 80's rod

so , 47 grams lighter on the piston ,
and 84 grams lighter on the rod ,so a total of 131grams ,

i reckon i can get another 5 grams off the rod ,so a total of 136 grams off the rotating assembly ,
thats got to be safer for high rpm bearing loadwise !

think ill go for the a plus rods ,which are also about 2 to 3 mm thicker in the rod shaft .

I weigh a standard A+ rod without bolts in at 615g. Is there really 25g difference in standard factory A+ rods?

Force Racing A+ rods without bolts weigh in around 508g

I also get a standard turbo piston at 280g without the pin

The upper one is en16 pre a+. Good rods when lightened down to around 585 grams with bolts.

I don't think I am Obsessive*happy*

I was just making you aware of how far you can go, infact I'm sure you could go further, but at what cost? A man of your tallent with a lathe, can easilly take a chunk of weight of the A+ rods *wink* You do have TBASE?

I have a box of A+ rods. I'll have to weigh them all and see how much of a difference there really is :)

I also have a couple of sets of the Pre A+ rods. And although the beam may be narrower, they use a higher grade steel. I think if you could machine enough off the Pre A+ rods and get it to a similar weight as a lightened A+ rod, it would be stronger. Most of the extra weight is in the cap and little end balance pads.

i think its great colin , all info is of use , i wrote about the material diference, and i think your right the en16 could probably end up lighter .but bearing in mind the cross sectional increase in the a plus rod , i think , in the shank ,it would be stronger .
i'm going to machine the a plus one ,and see how light it'll go without a lot of metal removal , so retaining maximum strength .

i have a program somwhere that will tell me the g forces on the piston ,i'll have to see how much higher it can go with it all being lighter ,before it exceeeds a 7k non light assembly ..

good point paul , i think we are looking at two noise creating scenarios,,the in block whistling ,and the exited block spinning end over end ''whum whum'' noise as the crowd scatters.
