Was fueling adjusted as mentioned in the Calver link?

The resonance effects do apply but need to be adjusted for the different pressure. So it should still be valid.

If Gav already has a decent length manifold, then it may already be running at the optimum. In fact it could reduce power. I think that the claimed hp gains are probably with short runner manifolds.

I don't know, but it may be worth trying it to see if it can offset the disadvantages of fitting a plenum inside the slam panel.

Fuelling was perfect, no point putting more fuel in when no more air was getting in

I seriously doubt it!

I just asked because Calver mentioned that he had to lean it off to get the increase in power...

I wish ! I've got most of the parts for the build & I rebored the block the other week, but that's as far as I've got.
I've got to many heads etc to do for other folks at the moment, so I've not had any time for my own stuff.
Hows your build doing Jack ?

Phil. :)

Any had a chance to get into the garage unfortunately for me, plus my money seems to be disappearing, mrs birthday this month so the mini allowance was cut short, still need pistons, shells, rod bolts, gaskets and a exhaust manifold yet so it's probably going to be a very close call even for mitp, as soon as I get back in the garage I'll post some pics up in my rather neglected build thread

I only work on the car between 8pm and 10pm, but it takes some serious motivation to get into the garage after a full days work.

It's been a long time ! Got 26cc from the chambers. What a nerve racking job it was knowing one slip with a carbide on aluminium could make a real mess, but thankfully my years of practice paid off !

Nice phil, when you going to bolt it all up?

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

The plan is to get the full potential out of my current 5 port motor then swap the 7 port head over for a direct comparison. In the meantime I'm building a new motor for the 7port to go on. So once the comparisons done a whole new engine will go in.

Not a huge update as I have very little free time as usual, but I decided to actually put a few hours aside to do some bits for my own car for a change.
Started making a plenum chamber. It was initially going to be aluminium, but due to the long runners I plan on using I decided it needed to be lighter, so I'm going with carbon fibre.

First job was to make a foam mould.

Then made an ally plate that will be wrapped inside as part of the mould. This will allow the runners to bolt to the back & be removable and the throttle body.

This is how the two parts will fit together.

Nice work. Chambers look ace.

the plate is a very good idea to combine the carbon.

If you have a bit more room for the plenum I would suggest considering to angle the pipe a bit away from the intakes and give the box a tad more volume athe the intake and a bit less an the end, also extend the plenum a bit past the last cylinder. That will probably equalise the flow better front to back.

Many moons ago I folded this.

intake is on the angled square .. and you can fold most ( and probably all ) of it from one sheet of metal.

maybe an idea :)

Thanks for the input. So you think the part where the throttle body will go should be angled away from the block & the plenum should taper down more towards the other end ?
I searched the internet a lot before I started making it, but there were so many different designs & no definate answer as to what's best. So it was hard to know what to do ?

I know what you mean. I found two zillion 'solutions'

: )

I have done a lot of reading and studying and this is what I have distilled

As far as I can tell from what i read you either go

Big plenum (1.5 to really big).. basically make the box so big that the inflow does not do much to upset the inflow ( think F1 airbox) this approach probably only works with itb's. You basically get a NA intake but with really high barometric pressure. Minimal lag as the volume behind the throttle blades is not too big and because of the higher volume in the plenum it is less critical with the distribution and sucking the plenum dry.

but you have to fit it.

or make a smaller plenum so that the inflow can go around corners without too much trouble

These guys have done a dynamic cfd that seems to make sense and shows the basic shape that seems to work in various setups

I've done several dynamic CFD runs of various plenum design.

What you have done so far looks bang on. I wouldn't change a thing.
