spent the morning on the bridgeport, opening the stud holes on the head to 12mm, so i no longer have to hit it with a hammer :icon_biggrin:, however what appeared to be a logical way :idea1: of firstly lining up the head to the block by using locating dowels did not work, they were some way off :crybaby2:, this was done on the cnc machine, everything was dialed up, so i can only sumise that despite having the stud holes drilled and tapped on a cnc machine this still was not accurate due to drilling and tapping into drifferent types of material :icon_thumright:. I am just concerned about the cam belt slipping due the head not been true of even moving.

Looking good. Where did you get the peening done? And how much? If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

I was in two minds about having it done, but if the cost is that low... On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

Had the block and head back, with two keyways inserted in the bloc and matched to the head, with the intention of stopping any twist in the head, thus avoiding the belt to slip off.

Very slow progress now as I have not been able to get to the machine shop, but I have done a dummy build for the cuts in the pistons and have made a jig

Correct me if I am wrong but the valves are at 70 degrees? Depends on what plain you are measuring it from. Actual valve angle is an included angle of 19.5 and 20.5 degrees, but for the sake of simplicity 20 degrees is perfectly fine On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Do you need the cut outs for the oil jets? Not seen anybody else doing that before. Has it put the pistons out of balance?

My mate Mike did it to his pistons, so even if the cambelt snapped there would be no contact. |

I think Andy is on about the cut-outs for the oil jets. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

I've seen posts on here where people have had to file pisons for the jets. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

EDIT: Made my question more clear... i found the bottom of the pistons were coming into contact with the jets, so it was suggested that i do the cuts. perhaps there is an argumentto suggest i did not need to cut out so much. in respect of the balance this is something that i am checking next. |

Thats not a bad idea actually. Unless it could affect the piston strenth in anyway?

I don't know why a piston would need to be balanced. It does not rotate, just goes up and down.
