really liking your engine bay. I'm thinking of now running a side rad and moving the intercooler lower behind the grill as your doing. Can I ask rad are you using?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi thanks for that, rad im using-look at third post down on page 2 55 knicker off ebay, tbh it is getting too warm at the mo, but i think thats because i have put in electric fan in only which was a bad move and rad is not sealed to inner wing, goint to put the mech fan on before going any further

cheers

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

superb install oli , one little error!..........is that you have the cooler strapped to the inner wing .... you need to move that bracket and re adjust it so it pics up instead of the inner wing, it needs to be on the engine so when the engine rocks back and forth the cooler does with the engine otherwise the way you have it it will rip the top off the cooler pronto!

Hi steve, was wondering about that, I thought they may be enough flex in the hoses but dont want to damage the ic so will have to look at mounting ic to the engine not the inner wing.

cheers

Right time for an update, have moved the intercooler brackets so it is attached to the engine not the car and.........after that i promptly killed the new engine, was getting harder to change gear before stalling altogether when the clutch was depressed, so you guessed it the thrusts are right royally fooked*frown*. Steve asked me to check for excessive end float and our lass was at work so had the bright idea of making a vid, had to hold some revs to stop stalling, you can see towards the end how easily it stalls

oh the pain, wouldnt have run it that long if i had seen that! *Punch*

anyhow engine has gone back the the very kind mr Benross who is going to pull it apart and see what damage I have done, also going to drop from a double grey to a single as I feel that will be better all round.*oh well* So running in fail

However I have cheered myself up with some new seats and door cards from ebay

seats are fishnets from a capri and in suprisingly good nick, even tilt and slide forwards. Was going to go for a black an blue theme inside but after getting these I like the yellow, so have a rear seat cover piped in yellow waiting for a second hand rear seat to go on! selling my original seats.rear seat cover and door cards from classic core, just need to put the lock escutions on and seen some nice chrome winders for mgbs, will get a set soon, thanks to madcatminis for the mk3 pull handles, just the style for the look i was after not too bling.

cheers

Watching that video is painful! Turn it off!

I think it's safe to say that the thrusts are fucked and your crank has probably got a lot of material missing from the thrust face.

Just like mine did.

Are you not tempted to use a Verto after this?

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Oh thanks thats cheered me up a shitload!-only kidding, I do feel like a complete twat though.
As for verto-never mind verto-Im tempted to use something made of weetabix after this, just hoping the damage isnt to bad, didnt run it much after the initial stalling so fingers crossed.

cheers

Well, you can have the crank re-ground and use oversize thrusts so it's not the end of the world.

What power are you after? It might be worth using an even lighter clutch than the grey (A single grey was enough to munch mine).

For reference Wintersurfer is using an orange to put down 160 nanas.

yeah, no point speculating on the damage til its apart,

However, I was musing on the munched thrusts topic a while back,
I think that the thrusts currently available are not very flat, and with a heavy clutch any high spots cause an issue,

I think its worth flatting of the running face of new thrusts on a bit of wet and dry on a flat surface.

We did that on the van's second engine after we did exactly the same thing. Not good.

Might be worth popping the block over to Fast Carl while it's in bits. Get the thrust converted to oil fed ones.

Thanks. Well worth it IMO. We mullered our thrusts with a single grey and a poorly adjusted clutch...

The end float on your crank looked huge though...

EDIT:Carl also turned down the thrust face on our crank in his lathe. Been spot on ever since.

I don't know if i have missed it but what has exactly happened then to makes the thrusts knackered? is it the clutch thats partly engaged even when the pedal is depressed?

Also sorry to hear your bad luck, all the best getting it back together running soon.

Right the damage

thrusts

As you can see the tabs come off and they just went round and round the main cap and block

backs

centre mains

My failure was possibly one or a combination of three, it got overly hot on the first run-not great with just mineral in. It had a double grey in! and even though I had all new components arms, master slave cyl, propperly bled ect i couldnt get the clutch to dissengage without extending the rod by 6mm so I have probably over extended the clutch. So thats the block and crank fooked, its now gone back together with new block, tuftrided crank and a single grey, I know there are a lot of other things I can do but the budget is very tight at the mo and Steve puts lots of these motors together without any problems so I will see how I go.

cheers

Motor back in

and put some bonnet vent holes in

ready to go again

so far its had 35 mins at fast idle to bed the cam and I have a mineral with ZDDP in there now as well, so when the weather picks up its time for a hard run in and off to the rolling road!

cheers
