ive been being lazy :(

all i need for the engine now is the crank to come back from heat treating, evrything else is here or machined. my builders applying the pressure now to get it back as theres a job lot of cranks with the treater which not one has been done. fingers crossed it should be done tomorrow so all the parts can be assembled.

wideband setup is in the post, lots and lots of bits have arrived but most of which pictures havnt been taken tho. hopefully a decent update soon.

+ i am now officially skint after a week of family birthdays to pay for presents etc...

not updated in a while, but not alot has gone on, uprated layshaft has arrived and a set of h section rods should hopefully be located between the crank and omegas. :)

so although its taking time its going to be a hell of a lot better than the original spec so well worth the wate.

mocked up my intercooler and fitted it to the shell with a mock up empty engine in place.

worked out very well.

treated myself to some goodies a while ago just because its hard to go to a show and not spend some money lol.

did a bit of opening on the turbo elbow and exhaust manifold. went well for my first bit of diegrinding, easy bits to start off on.

wiring however is a nightmare, converting from spi to carb is just baffling me evry time i go to the unit and see it.

hopefully will have some better piccie updates soon. :)

new turbo on its way, think it will complement the engine... *wink*

also i way wondering... would a high flow NA manifold be better than the turbo item, in my head its a yes but has anyone tried and compared?

Check out Mattys thread on the GT17 manifold in "For Sale" page 5....seems that you can use the NA inlet for a mirage or similar (aka Matty's) manifold for the GT17 but it is tough to get to the nuts on a T3 setup w/stock manifold without some mods.

cheers mate. havnt updated this in ages as ive been very lazy. wont need to use an NA one now as im making all of the manifolds myself.

hadnt worked on my mini for ages as i lost interest a little. but ten i had the urge to order one of these from curley but with a mk1 bonnet:

that should be here next friday so after work today i removed the front end...

before:

the panels:

after:

just need to clean the edges, luckily its pretty solid under there which i didnt think would be the case, going to take out the window and fix the lip so it dosnt leak while im at it.

im also going to drop a mock lump in and try to figure out the manifolds i want (was meant to do this about a month ago) not having the exhaust out of the bonne now but going to route it down and out of the A panel hopefully.

going to start trying to get the project going now.

front arrived havnt fitted it yet just rested it on. its a good colour match which i was hoping for but needs repairing in a few places so beentrying to get in touch with curley to repair it as it was cracked right from the box. :(

and after some info of matty got a cinquecento rad on its way, the idea being i can run my turbo where the original rad would be and then run he exhaust straight out of the A panel... so will have a brand new minispares 2 core spare.

heres the turbo i got

got some flanges off paul s, and got to see some of his projects he is doing (very impressive stuff)

still havnt managed to put a mock engine inas i ballesd my ankle up badly as work and cant really walk a the moment, so right as im getting back into it i cant actually do alot :(

Will it fit down the passenger side of the engine? There isn't much room to start with and you still have to put the water pump, coolant hoses, expansion tank etc etc in there.

I'm not sure yet mate I'll find out as soon as I get a mock up engine in, with there being no inner wings it should be ok, if not an electric waterpump may be an option and the expansion tank can go where it wants. I'll keep you updated as and when :)

placed a mock up enpty engine in and a few bits and bobs just to simulate a few things and this is what I'm going for, mocked up in place, the brackets a bit rough but it holds it where I want it. (the whole front will be alot neater when finally done dont think its staying in this state *wink* )

it's all where I want it to be just need that electric water pump. Exhaust will take a u turn upward from the outlet follow the top of the wing then down an out of the a panel, the head to turbo exhaust will be mocked from a modified lcb and then taken to a bender to make a cnc one. The turbo oil feed and return are going to be made custom on the engine and turbo ends to take braided lines. Any thoughts?

make sure you use some for of flexible mounts for the turbo, it needs to be able to move as the metal expands and contracts.

Also, how are you going to lube the core? The oil uses gravity to get through it...

How wil the oil drain work? I thought it had to be no more than 15deg from vertical. Like this it's more like 90.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

I thought it used pressure from the system. Aaah. I'll have to change it around a bit, so it needs to be at least 15degrees tilted from where it is now? The mount will be the exhaust itself and a mount coming from the threads for the normal side mounted rad on the engine mount bracket.

The turbo must have the drain pointing pretty much straight down, 15 deg is good to aim for, but I think you could get away with maybe 30 deg, I wouldn't want to chance it though!
