Hey man, are you going to run an unequal length manifold or equal length. In the way of easier fabrication i would say unequal.

Would it even make much difference?

I like the sound of a narrow six!

Finally got around to sorting out the valve cut-outs in the pistons, I decided to go a slightly less conventional route.

Stripped the head.

Sharpened my special cut-out tools.

Inserted the tool.

Device to ensure constant depth.

First cut-out, looks good.

Second cut-out.

Couple of hours later.

here is a close up of the no 2 and 3.

Now i have to re-shim the valve buckets and then i can check whether it all clears. Im pretty excited

Well it all clears so ive gotten on and started to have a play with some stainless.

Some more mock-up.

And the runners are tacked together, now just to sort out the collector.

My first attempt at the collector didnt work out so well, it was late and I started rushing it abit.

I reckon its the right general idea, just need to take a measured approach, instead of just thumb-sucking the right shape.

Any comments or suggestions on how to do the collector a better/different way are welcome.

id suggest cutting 4 pipes with tapers, tack them together paing attention to the manifold end, then trim the turbo end.

Wow its been a while !
Not much progress but I have bought some cool bits.

So I then decided to start sorting the rest of the gearbox bits so the casings have been washed and some of the gears assembled.

Stronger 3 bolt centre web, its the only one Ive ever seen, so they are rather rare over here.

2nd and 3rd gear assembled on the mainshaft.

Oh and I started on the new waterpump flange.

Really like your valve cutout thingy !

I assume it runs straight in the valve guide so what's the scenario : very low speed and plenty oil or new valve guides ?

Adam I reckon the rear edge of the bonnet will have to be raised an inch or so but ill only know for sure when its all in.
Advantage, you hit the nail on the head there, low speed plenty of oil. It took much longer to set-up for the next cut-out then actually doing the cut-out.

Tiny updated.
I got given this by a mate who races a m3.

so I cracked on with the waterpump take-off and the stud for the head.

Apart from that Ive been looking into undercrown oil squirters, beemer ones ofcourse. The only problem is that my A-plus block is not flat around the bottom of the sleeves.

What do you guys reckon ?

How are the sleeves secured in the block?

What about nibbling a bit out the web on the back of the block, and having them central on the bore where the step is lowest, then just machine a flat spot in there.

I think there is a step at the bottom of the bore that the sleeve presses against.

That might work, ill just have to check that the jets will line up with the oil galley.

Of course I suppose you could always space them out with something to clear the hump, and fit them as normal. Might need some longer threads though, but thats probably easier then buggering about with a block thats already been prepared

The first job I will do when preparing my block will be to fit the jets that way if I bugger it up then I can start with another one at no cost to myself!
