i wonder who came up with that idea *tongue*

Apologies Denis, I thought that it was Bat's idea originally - my mistake.

lol no need, just being a pest :) my only concern with venting back into the downpipe though would be back scavanging from the pipe at low throttle opening, but i guess it depends on the pressure drop across the turbo! . as always eager to see the results :)

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

I used a mg manifold and made up a single pipe to the turbo.

Seams to work really well over the clutch.

Yours is looking good tho :)

Just a thought : [ don't forget i'm not that up on mini engine bay packaging ]
couldn't you run the ex. manifold over the top of the intake to the area where your turbo is currently , ie turn the 1st 90 bends out of the head upwards

Not really as I going to be running injection with a couple of fuel rails going across the top of the inlet runners.

Mount all the injection hardware underneath...where its cooler. Less heat soak if the exhaust ran over te top.

Nearly finished:

Welding's not pretty but should be fine.

Fettled the end flange to merge with the two pipes.

Made up a couple of flanges to prevent the manifold flanges from bowing with the heat. Also doubled up as a feed for the back purge gas. Worked a treat, all the flanges are as flat as they started.

Your welding looks tidy compared to mine....

What are you welding with (Mig, Tig etc)?

I've used Tig and pure argon as it is stainless steel.

Regretably not. I've a few too many projects on the go at the moment.

looks great similar to the one i did for peter , i tell you it was a pain in the arse to try get it to fit there. Are you still going to use engine steady ? also i had to keep pipes with few mm of the block to clear brakes lines and such but i guess you can move that stuff

edit heres a pic for you

I remember studying that photo when I was doing the design.

Mines going in an ex-Miglia so the normal engine steady and brake lines etc do not exist.

I expect that we shall have to make a few adjustments once the engine is in the car.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Not yet. Doing the inlet manifold at the moment, then will need to make the downpipe and the sample tubes.

Long way to go.

The pipe is 28/33mm ish

The elbows came from all stainless, nominal 1" bore but 28mm.

Too cold to actaully cut metal today, so i've decided to draw up the next version of this manifold for the next version of the 998Ti in CAD.

The centre runner turns in underneath/behind the others. The two outers join at the end of the block.

I have actually made the first runner a few weeks ago, but due to a dose of man flu and cold weather it has come to a halt.

They are for different projects.

Comparative testing would be good but flanged for different turbos.
