Cheeky bugger, i was going to buy a few bits for the miglia but you've missed out now*tongue*

Mapping MS is fairly easy and i think its good if you put it together yourself as you learn how it works and that could help with any future problems.

In the end though ECU choice is down to personal preference and budget.

Hi,
Take a look on my site http://www.doyouneedabrain.co.uk
Anything you want to know just ask. I do a plug and play setup for the K head.
I also do a very good WB gauge setup for carbs or other ECUs
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Coil on plug is deffo a bonus as it saves quite a lot of space under the bonnet surprisingly :)

Was reading DTA's manual the other day and it has been updated:

Single Ignition Coils A word of warning about these. They are generally not chosen by manufacturers for performance reasons but usually some other. Just because they are fashionable, do not assume that they are better!

My advice would be keep an eye out for a second hand proprietory ECU e.g. Emerald, DTA, Omex, can be had for around £300. If you're not mega into electronics etc this is the easier option in my eyes, all you need to do is buy a new plug and make a loom.

If only Tom - I was after a cheap spare ECU the other day as DTA no longer have any bits to repair the P8 Pro - talk about heart failure.

From a novice point of view, I got really confused with MS with all the diffferent versions and codes etc.. the VEMS unit was ideal as it had everything I needed and more, no additional wideband controller etc needed. The software is reasonably straight forward (once the initial configs are done, lol)!

TBH the wiring and installation of sensors was piece of piss!

Another advantage of using the VEMS with the K head, is there is at least 3 people running it, all different setups so its quite likely that finding a base map to get you going quite easy. *wink*

As said above once you know your way around the software, you shouldn't find any problems getting it mapped.

It all depends what you read into that statement.

The biggest problem with coil on plugs is that they have a far far shorter dwell time and those not knowing this will fry the ignition drivers in a flash!!

the other thing that needs to be considered with coil on plug is that each coil needs its own ignition driver as the snap back voltages and the current cause all sorts of problems if you twin them up on one ignition driver.

I use Kawasaki coils and the dwell for those I have at 1ms, thats one third that of a Ford coil pack!!

basicaly there is no real performance gain from using them, but, like i said, where space is at a premium, you cant go far wrong as long as they are configured correctly :)

They are out there for sure, in the last 12 months I've bought a DTA E48 and an Emerald M3D for less than £650 for the pair.
