there you go tom , prettty basic really .

colin i have no idea what you just said !lol stop breathing the r134a *wink*

it has hydraulic tappets, so no tappets to set ,and the valves are about the same size as the bmw ones , so it will flow well , the ports are more downdraught thn the bmw ,and i think a better design , itll put out 120 bhp apparently with a chip and throttle body etc ,at around 6k , on a 1243cc ,,so pretty efficient .

oh and thanks every one for the positive comments ,
the hardest thing has been to keep it secret and not share it with the boys on here !

Did you managed to get it started with the bottle upside down in the end?

i havent tried matt , just happy to have it running ,

i spent a week on my own and with matts help trying all sorts of things to get it to run ,in the end i used a msd dg2 box cd ignition ,and realized the propane is v sensitive to being the correct mixture and i had it way too rich . it also needs a huge bog off big spark to fire it .

I dont know what im more impressed with

This revolutionary engine that was built in secret

or

the fact sturgeo spotted it was at roberts palace, how the hell did you manage that???

PS, i might be able to provide a test mule car for avon if my engine keeps forking me around.....

I'm dead impressed.

Another great bit of trail blazing from robert.

Have you been able to resolve the remaining issues? Like oil drain, water outlet etc?

Also have you got some cam data? This would be the biggest advantage in that the cams will be well suited to a mini, rather than the bike heads which are a bit high in duration.

Sturgeo worked it out with a bit of lateral thinking, made a couple of key assumptions and went straight to the GT17 thread with pictures of the back garden. He keeps saying he should be a copper !

From what Robert has said they won't be as revy as the bike cams, but obviously you still get all the oher benefits! :)

Another good thing is you don't need piston pockets either. (I think this is all depenedant on the timing though). It was a worrying moment when the hydraulic tappets pumped up, we were half expecting some contact. Lol

paul,
the drains seem ok ,at least ,there was no il shooting out of the breather or smoke at 4k ,thats about as far as its got ,that vid is within 5 mins of first fire up , id just calmed down enough to stop cavorting around the garden like a human helium hybrid .the water feed is going to be through the block into the head ,and out of the thermostat in the head outlet at the end near the turbo ,so no probs there , cams are around 200 degrees at 50 th0u ,so may be a bit short ,but simulations show around 385 bhp on 30 psi at 8k ,with those cams .

shit the bed, that's impressive Robert!

Are you going to convert it to run petrol at some point, or keep with the propane?

True! But after so much investment (have you seen the price of J cloths these days) it would be a shame to skin flint at the last hurdle! *hehe!*
