I finally got the engine running, eventhough there was some stupid errors before the start. First I but the gasget between carb and plenum wrong way around and because of that the engine didn't get any fuel. Second the hall sensor for MS didn't work because the theeth in decoder wheel was too close to each other. This was fixed by changing the sensor to inductive type.

Well not it runs quite well, but I still have some broblems with the clutch because the pedal hits the floor before the clutch is released properly. I know that clutch arm might be a bit worn but is there any other reason which may cause this. I have braided pipes and new cyliders.

The two reasons I can think of are :

1. There is excess air in the system and you need to re-bleed, or
2. The capacity of the clutch master cylinder is not enough for the clutch slave cylinder you have fitted. It's worth checking that the slave is the right one for the clutch you have, they are different for diaphragm clutch (pre A+, usually a long slave cylinder) and Verto clutch (A+, short stubby slave cylinder, I think it uses a hose which has a banjo type metric thread). Minispares Centre have pictures on their website of the correct ones to use.

PS: I am using a KnockSense amplifier and a standard Bosch knock sensor with my Megasquirt MS1 Extra install.

I imported the KnockSense adjustable amp from the states for about £35 and I think the sensor was about £25.

Everything is working as it should be in MS which has a built in circuit for the amp and all you do is plug and play but I have not 'enabled' the operation of knock retard yet as I'm still developing the ignition map. Once I'm happy, I can then explore the retard feature a bit more. I am not using the upper alternator bolt hole on the front of my block so my sensor is bolted there rather than yours which is at the back.

If there's sufficient interest, I'll do a separate thread on the install of the Knocksense but it's very well covered under Phil Ringwood's UK Megasquirt site: www.ExtraEFi.co.uk which also has links to the KnockSense unit.

Fantastic engine detailing - like the install alot. Well done.

Good luck.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

not afraid of engine fumes in the cabin then I guess? I'm facing the same problem with the '75 Van, but for sure I'm running air from outside the engine bay.
Otherwise congrats on the result; you Finns really know how to do projects like this (not a Mini, but a personal favorite of mine since I own an XJC as well: http://jaguar.fiboy.com/XJ12C.htm): must have to do with the long wintery nights or something*happy*

well done!
