Actuall that's another thing (touched on by John earlier), GRP shelld cars are not actually minis so should not be elligable.

who do i get to race then in the taxed/mot'd/insured and non trailer queen class?

Looks like its just me and you Bud! :)

Im driving up...hopefully no engine fires on route!! lol

Bastards, mine gets driven everywhere too - dont you guys remember me having to re-fit my exhaust under Jim's trailer when it fell off outside the entrance to avon '06??

i always drive to Avon and have done for the last 10 years (and suprisingly always driven home)

but if i had a tow car and a trailer would i tow it? Probably!

i also drove the mini to LeMans to watch the 24hr race, i think that makes mine a proper road car.

All good points and for sure a gentle amble out on Sat night would be fun!

personally I live too far from Avon to make it viable to drive the car there with the family - hence trialered, now when I lived in Wiltshire I did drive it there and there was only MrsK and me and a tent to worry about - circumstances change.

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

we define and police our own rules and have our own leader board on this site. we could even have a semi seperation of class D, say class D "a" for proper road cars with a series heads etc, class D "b" for other heads and class D "c" for not so road legal or with nos.

But then you would have arguments between where cars would fit in those classes, i know people would argue that mine isnt a proper road car as it doesnt have carpets and plastic windows, but im confident it gets used alot more than many cars that are in class d

Theres a seperate class for nitrous cars, im sure somewhere it says no nitrous allowed

You'll never be able to police the class, lets just enjoy it for what it is-a giid fun weekend out, who cares about a plastic trophy?

I may have a biased opinion when it comes to 16V heads but as far as im concerned it is still an A series and as of yet has proven no more of an advantage over the 5 port with regards to 1/4 times as Nic has shown.

If the "rules" state steel shell then nearly everyone on here would be ruled out of class D because 50% of the car is either fibreglass or carbon!

My point is that im running a completely steel shell with a 16V A series, have I got any advantage over someone with a mini that is half carbon with a 5 port head?

IMO everyone has taken their own route to get where they are whether it be reducing weight by replacing bodywork with lighter copies or fiiting "aftermarket" head.

One thing for sure is I know if I was next to Nics car on the 1/4 mile I would be embarised at the end! *blush*

Sorry nic - couldnt remember who's trailer it was *wink*

I'm not a front-runner, and never will be, so I can't say i'm too bothered about who is in class D.

What annoys me more is when the idiot dragsters and motorbikes get let through the huge avon queue and hold the minis up.

good point AlexB, why can't the wild bunch que like everyone else? they take loads of time to set up and take there run, and for what they are, and what they run, i think there a waste of time.

i think is good to have V8's and hot hatch's there to compare your times against, but they should all que!

I was told that the wild bunch supply the marshals, enabling the event to take place.

But thinking about it, are they there at every RWYB?

the wild bunch and the owners/management at Avon are all linked together, i think you'll find there all one big happy family and we are the outsiders

As a spectator, I enjoy the break from the monotony of minis when the Wild Bunch have a go.

But as a regular Pod goer in the 70s, my roots are more V8 than mini.

Does it have to be NOS, or will any brand of nitrous oxide work?

NOS only Dave. I heard that the Wizards of Nos kits don't work well in cages. I think it's on a molecular level.

Well all being well, I'll be driving there, racing and then driving back, just like at Mini's VS Beetles and MITP. I refuse to turn my Mini into a trailer queen even though its my weekend toy. I just enjoy driving the thing too much.

What spec I'll be running still remains to be seen!

I drove to the first ever Mini event at Santa Pod in 94....

How the hell I suffered that car for about 12-1300 miles in that 3-4 days I was away, I have no idea !!!!!!
Just as well it didnt break !!!! I dot think that notion even came into my head back then.

I love driving to and from events, but TBH, I dont think I could ever do it again in a Mini ! ( Basic trip straight there and back is about 750miles )

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
