Righty, well i've managed to spend a fair bit of time cracking on with stuff. so much so that she went into Altered image coachworks for a dash of paint 2 weeks ago.

She was finished this morning so she's now home and i've started to build her back up again.

The paint is absolutely amazing its Ford Panther Black. in the sunlight it just sparkles.

then i went and got her all dirty by pouring a load of waxoyl into her. Still it has to be done.

Then i got on with fitting some stuff, steering rack went in. The headlining went in loose which enabled me to put the rear section of the cage in.

But mostly i was just sitting in the garage drinking tea staring at the paint.

Anyway pics say a thousand words so enjoy:

Nice!

I love the liberal use of swaged holes.

Cheers for the comments.

I started properly fitting stuff today, but i didn't get any pics.

It beaks my heart a bit to have to drill holes to mount stuff, for a lot of it i've planed ahead and mounted them before paint so all the holes are predrilled, but where do you stop, i could nearly have built the entire car only to have to take it to pieces again to get it painted.

The boot floor went in and i started with the wiring, the actuators for the central locking were put in and i fitted the wiper motor.

The wiper motor is a bit of a custom job as its mounted inside the cabin behind the dash so it keeps the bulkhead free of any unnecessary clutter. A bit anal i know but hell why not i'm doing it because i can.

Well, in my book, racing regulations aren't there for fun. I wouldn't like to have my jeans soeaked with fuel if I ever went offroading in a Mini.

At the end of the day its a road car,he isnt building it to race.Really its no worse than a stripped out standard shell with the standard pressed holes in the shelf.

Relax guys, it will be sealed.

I'm just not using metal, there will be something showing through from underneath.

Looking good buddy.

Did you put the headlining in loose first the fit the cage?

It saved a bit of weight, dont know how much some day i'll take all the holes i cut out to work and weigh them, but i dont want anybody to see me as they may think i'm a bit (even more) tragic - but mostly i just like cutting and swaging holes.

Yep headlining went in loose and all the bits of the cage will be put in then i'll tighten it all up and stick it down.

Last time i put a cage in with the headlining i ripped it in a few places, so i wont make that mistake again.

Good weekend in the workshop. Got quite a lot done.

I mounted the front end, which made me feel good.

then i spent the rest of the weekend starting the wiring.

i have had to make my own loom from stratch i've too much custom stuff to be able to modify the standard loom, plus i hate the look of the loom as it just seems untidy.

I'm making it all out of Raychem high spec wiring, heat shrink and good quality connectors, these are all being crimped and then soldered in place. Its amazing how useful my cheapo multimeter i bought 10 years ago has been.

I made the main front back loom first then installed the steering column and started taking apart all the column stalks to find out what does what, theres a picture further down of them all labelled.

another little bit i like it the steering wheel has 2 micro switches on it, 1 is going to be for the launch control and i dont know what the other one is yet but i couldn't just have 1 it wouldn't look right.

after all that was done i started on the front loom for the lights and indicators, this is not all finished inside the car but the external bit is.

running down the right side is the loom for the indicators and horn whilst the left side holds the main lighting loom.

The horn was a little bit of a compromise as i didn't really know where to hide it, but in the end i fixed it to the light bowl, it keeps it out the way, yes it will get some road crap near it, but it'll be soo easy to clean that i'm not bothered.

Anyway pics:

I'm really glad i've gone for white cables, if i'd used black i'd have had a hell of a job as its really difficult to work inside the car with the interior being all black. In hind sight i'd have done the interior dark gray.
