Vemstune is awesome. No longer with the Megatune rubish. When you do get the Vems box, Upgrade right away to the latest firmware and Vemstune, before you start tuning for your engine. You won't have the head ache of upgrading from a tuned engine, like Matty and myself. I need to retune for the turbo anyway, and have been learning all the new features and different methods of how it was done with Megatune. Colin, In fairness, those of us using MS haven't used Megatune for over two years - it isn't capable of handling all the recent features from the MS firmware so we use TunerStudio or MegaTunix. I don't want to re-ignite any debate about VEMS vs MS, I suspect they have both come a long way in the last two years, but Megatune probably is "rubish" with VEMS as you put it, as it is "rubish" with MS as well but that's two years history..... Rod. Come on Rod! that was NOT a dig at the MS community!! But since your perception of the world is somewhat distorted, you perceved that it was. I can't help you with that, and I am sorry that you thought I was having a go. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Colin do you know if vemstune works with windows 7? I dont think anyone has had any problems, its certainly not been a common topic on the forum, infact it's only ever come up once. Most problems arose from the Prolific USB converters and their drivers, but even now that seems to be less and less common. Be warned though matty, you will apparently have to retune if upgrading from the firmware level you are on. Ah thats good then. I am having trouble getting my USB adaptor working, but to be honest I didn't try for too long. I need to retune completely anyway, as ive now got my high level boost sensor, so the scaling all needs to be changed to suit. Im running Rover IAT and water temp sensors, Ford TPS. The boost sensor in the VEMS one. What you NEED to do is upload the box with Vemstune and save the config before you do anything else. I would also advise saving your current config in Megatune just to be sure you have everything backed up. You then use Vemstune to select and download from the Vems server the latest supported firmware to your PC. The Vems download tool allows you to select the firmware, the sensor patch files and whether you want wheel speed or PS2. It then does everything even downloading your currect config, which WILL return many many errors due to the mass difference. Use the error report to see where you need to tweak. The VE, Spark and Lambda tables are all different sizes so will need to be looked at, maybe re writing them manually. You can insert columns or rows into these tables, you can re scale and it will extrapolate. One excellent feature is the drag and drop. If you have a known good config from another Vemstune user, you can drag that file onto the config window you are looking at and drop it, it will then update that config window only with the data held in that file. There are default settings for many different configurations, have a look and read up, there is too much to explain here. http://vems.hu/vt/ and download the latest stable version. Use the F1 button when in a config window to show help files. I thoroughly recommend to install the SD logging card. It automatically logs everything everytime you start the engine, can be accessed through vemstune in the normal manor, or if you install the removable card, quickly transfer the log files to your PC and access them via Vemstune, thus leaving the box in the car. As for the USB converter, I also recommend the FTDI converter from here http://www.easysync-ltd.com/product/527/es-u-1001-r100.html they do the same one with a short length On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

I can't help you with that, and I am sorry that you thought I was having a go. No need to apologise Colin :) I didn't think you were "having a go". We are probably in broad agreement WRT MegaTune. But, contrary to your perception, I do live in the real world. Try a Google on "MegaTune" (make sure you are set for "the web" and not "pages from the UK" only) and you should see what I mean. Dis-information abounds. Because so many files have never been updated and search engines like Google don't know any better, the information - that a lot of people will see - is way out of date. According to the first page of my Google on Megatune, there is no mention whatsoever of any relation to VEMS (perhaps not surprising considering its past history), but a clear implication that Megatune is "the" tuning software for MegaSquirt, and no mention whatsoever that it became fairly useless for MegaSquirt (apart from the most basic installs) over two years ago - for the reasons Carl mentioned about the screen resolution limit being unable to display all the new advanced features. If it ever did work properly with VEMS, I'm surprised, well maybe not too surprised considering the way VEMS emerged, but that's another story from long past history :). So I'm simply agreeing with you that whatever camp ("community") we are in, use the best current product and let's not refer back to the old days. Everything evolves (into the real world)..... Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |
