Max steps is 180, steps to extend is 190, therefore it drives the valve another 10 steps to ensure its closed.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Thanks, I'll rescale it.

check it by setting all the 'steps' in the temperature bins to 180, then the cold crank and the warm crank to 180 as well.

Turn off the ignition and back on again, the valve should motor fully closed and then open to max, you should only be able to hear it click a couple of times as it hits full open.

Try it at 170, if no clicks heard its not reaching full open.

Set it 10 steps above the maximum to ensure it can drive full closed from full open. The algorythm counts steps from fully closed.

The official rover valves are 180 steps whether wired for bipolar or unipolar, i cant see this being much different if the lead screw is the same.

Well, it was not actually working correctly when fitted on the car and seemed eventually to fail altogether.

I went to the scrappy and got a couple off some Peugeot 1.6s.

These both seem to work fine. But to get them to fully close, I had to set the start steps to 300.
