aye - ditto the other fellas, looks like you've crammed it in nicely!

THANKS peter ,jack ,neil and dave,greatly appreciate the positive feed back its not tidy in some ways but for a quick 3 week turbo change its come out oooo k! now for a bit of hot wideband action and vericom testing .ill try to get the mix map on here and the data log .

ohhhhh glooom.
smoke on idle.... stuttering on rev then clears ,goes well no smoke on cruise or back off ,will try lower fuel pressure at the mo its at 3.5...but im affeared its gotta come apart again ,can oil go down the exhaust guides into the cyl on a A series ? coz the inlets guides are only 2k old bronze with new seals on ,either that or ive killed my omegas!!!!! ah well cesty la vie

i'd go with turbo seals...

i meant to say also on the exhaust side of the turbo.

mines the same and pretty sure its the turbo.

should find out if i change it tomorrow as i have a brand new one to fit.

one thing that might be worth a try,

the guides are fooked on my car, (N/A 1380) and it tends to smoke a lot more when ticking over on a steep downward incline, i guess the oil fills up the rocker box enough to get to the top of the guides then piss down them.

might help to prove if its the turbo or the guides.

thanks ian and m 13...like a numpty i forgot the jack the car up trick ill do that tomorrow ,, the turbo is ok cos i just rebuilt it ,and the oil is deff being burnt in the cylinder,im going for ex guides as i think it could run down them and get in the cyl and be sucked out the inlet on overlap reversion ,and i know theyre a bit on the experimental side clearance wide (read big),but it honk's on so ill do them in the autumn and just drive it for the mo .unless i have a bit of time ,could be a chance for some big ex valves ... hmmmm

connected up the old vacuum to the breather catch can with one way valves on all the breathers ,and stuff my old boots NO SMOKE !!!!!!
so guides it is ,and i can do them later and get on with hooning around ,incidentaly , the going flat experience at avon was the poxy condensor !! which did its usual trick yest of seeming exactly like fuel starvation .so i changed it and all ok there too .

Well done robert, for your next trick get rid of that distributor and move to mappable ignition......

oh yes tom , iv got the mj box and all the edis stuff so its just installation really , i know i know itll be so much better

been out in this now

pulls from no revs and is pretty quick for such low boost, allround worthwhile conversion

quick update ,found out today the turbo used here is used up to 235 bhp on the saab when chipped , and the same compressor wheel is used up to 190 bhp on the a6 tdi and passat tdi when they are chipped . this would using a 2/3 multiplyer for converting from diesel power to ptrol ,give it a 285 bhp capability at prob around 25 psi .wooof! just need to fix my map prob on the megajolt!

Hi Robert,
the chipped engine make them running out of turbo efficiency..... I made a crossing map between 50 and 60 trim which give very high efficiency from 13 lb to 20 but then your start to run out of the high central eff map at 2 pressure ".
whatever it's really a highly efficient compressor for any mini using between 7 to 22 psi from 110 hp to 220....... and so is very good match for any a seri turbo, also I think the more powerfull ones will need a bigger turbine wheel as a gt 2052 the crossing point between 1752 and 2052 being approximatively 160 bhp

blue lines are 52mm 52 comp trim, red one is 55 comp trim and green one is 60 comp trim.

yes fab ,thats what i had worked out too interestingly the part no for my wheel is 436131-0002 and for the 60 trim 436131-0001 so im jumping to a conclusion that may be errornous that itll mimic that map the most ,would be nice if it did because as you know that map runs way up to 30 psi at 70 % eff which is amazing for a production rd turbo , in support of this theory , is the fact that the 1752 wheel is used as standard in the renault master at 19psi boost, so one might assume its going to be in its pk eff at around 20 psi as is the 2252 60 trim .
with ref to the turbine , interestingly ,whereas the wheel outer dia is 44mm ,the id is 39 mm ,which makes me think is may flow a fair bit more than one might originally expect going by its 44 mm id .
i think that the 235 bhp saab output ,will prob be at around the 10 to 12 psi mark , where the 1752 map may curve back on airflow ,so running out of flow as you say ,but , on the other hand , i know that my audi a6 tuning friend at amd ,gets 190 bhp out of the 150 bhp tdi running 24 % more boost ill work this out but my feeling is that would bring the boost up to a point where the map flow increases a lot , i generally work out a disel to petrol bhp ratio of one third extra bhp at the same flow on a petrol , this would give 285 bhp max out of the 1752 ,but only at the 20 to 30 psi where i think the map has highest flow . , obviously this is all unscientific interpolation on my part ,but ,hey ..its fun

not sure about the exhaust turbine, as with the saab, it only "see" half the total exhaust gas as being driven by only one banch of cylinders,
completely agree with the 2/3 for diesel/gasolione conversion I used this rule for years and it always worked very well, but with one suggestions , makes are allways choosing the less laggy a/r so each time you want to build a powerfull engine using this conv choose an a/r one or two step higher it will give more usable rpms.
really if you are looking for big numbers a 20 or 22 turbine wheell will be needed to reduce backpressure,it would surprise me that the 17 can flow 250 bhp
about your set up , i like it a lot, and I'm sure this turbo will give you complete satisfaction and certainly more...
a gearbox strapping :) will be needed before you reach the max potential of this peace of kit
